I enjoyed that night, but vowed to not go back. It's too hot and too crowded. I wanted a good fireworks shot and I got what I wanted and have no desire to go back.

It's a composite of two photos I took.
The barge where the fireworks were shot was too far from the bridge for me to get the shot I wanted in one take, so I took multiple shots of fireworks and found one I liked to blend in Photoshop with the one I took of the bridge and sky.
Sometimes the shot you envision is not possible because of logistics, weather, circumstances, that's when photographers take liberties like the ones I took.

No. I took the foreworks photos sitting in the stands, but took the bridge and sky after walking closer to the water. I wanted the sky picto be taken as the sun was going down and there was still some color in the sky. When the fireworks started, it was completely dark.

I consider photography to be art, and as with any art, the artist has a conception of what he wants the final piece to look like.
In this instance, it wasn't possible to create what I wanted in one image.
Almost every serious photographer today edits his photos in one way or another. I'm more concerned with the look of the final image than whether it was done in one shot or not.

The ironic part about your photo of the Iwo Jima flag in the light of MikeBR's cheating comments is that the one always displayed was a recreation of the original flag raising. In other words, faked!
