And they call THIS news??. I’m pretty sure the people she helped didn’t have enough money to hire a real attorney and she assisted them obviously successfully or she wouldn’t have had so many clients. Some lawyers don’t have 100 clients ??. This is not embarrassing if that’s what the article tried to do. I APPLAUD her

Surely upon employment you are required to produce a certificate of good standing from the Louisiana Supreme Court?

Oh.my.god.
This is the attitude that probably made her think it was okay to lie in the first place.

i just don't get it. maybe she didn't take the mpre and figured it was all good? even then that's a stretch
how do you finish this ruse? i mean eventually she'd have to take the bar, right? how do you broach that with your employer?

How did no one in that office not scroll the bar pass list? Every first-year attorney I know scrolls the exam pass list to check for the names of the new hires or those that were the year behind them.

I've seen judges check bar rolls before hearings. One dude forgot to pay his dues and was suspended. He called in the payment and was allowed to argue.

At least he passed the bar

What is going to screw her is that she used someone else’s Bar Number on several motions.

The article says she used another lawyer's bar number. She's fricked either way.

The over-worked defense doesn't fly here. The first thing they should have checked is her bar admittance.
Meh. I'm in no way excusing this - it's completely, absolutely unacceptable.
But the PD's office in most districts in LA is an absolute disaster of incredible proportions. I know the first thing they "should" have checked. It in no way surprises me that no one thought that was needed. They are so desperate for help, pay so little, and have so many funding issues, I'm honestly surprised this doesn't happen more often.
And we got all kinds of My Cousin Vinny possibilities here.

That OPD website has a donate page. They are so bad off that they have to take donations.
Does the District Attorney need to accept donations?
