San Francisco is a vision of the Left’s desired future: technopolitical aristocracy and peasants.

Yes but what other cities have created safe zones for drug users

Paris and Geneva both do it as well as several other cities in Europe.

It's better for them to go to centralized areas to do their drugs as it makes it more likely for them to get treatment, less likely to pass around diseases from infected needles, less likely to die from ODing, and less likely to commit crime.

We have to take care of Ukraine and the rest of the world first, then our cities and borders

There are needles exchanges in San Jose and it is one of the safest cities in the country as well as wealthiest cities in the country and is wildly liberal.

Maybe BR should have a “murder zone.”

Like a park, with walls to prevent stray bullets

You can take your rap beefs here and kill each other and keep it out of the rest of the city.

If it weren’t for the tech industry up there it would be no better than Oakland.

Last time I was out there (about 3 years ago) for a tech investors conference.

Me and another participant were walking to a late breakfast and two blocks in to the walk we were stepping over a couple of dudes that just took a hit of whatever drug they shoot up with. Those dudes were drifting off into lala land and the guy with me was thinking we should call someone.

I asked him why and told him to look around. There were at least a dozen others in the same state within our view.

Cali and San Fran in particular are complete shithole.

Every study that has ever been produced by supporters of drug safe rooms that I have seen has been labeled flawed and biased.

The article I linked earlier shows that the area around the drug use zone in San Fran turning into an open-air drug market directly contradicts what many of the studies state.

And the only way to get him out of that situation is to double social spending.

That actually sounds like a wonderful idea. Herd them into a park with goodies and let them kill each other.

Tell a bunch of rappers you want to give them money to shoot a music video in the park, and schedule it all at the same time so they all show up at once.

Tell them the survivors get the money.

Do you think that has more to do with the fact that it's basically a city of tech billionaires and multi-millionaires or needle exchanges?

Certain wealthy areas of CA do a really good job of shipping the less desirable out of their city to other areas. For example, Manhattan Beach is one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, and homeless drug users are rare there and that is not a coincidence. The police were very active at keeping them away. Same in Hermosa Beach and I saw this more than once when I lived there.

Remember the TD.com poster that found his brother in Skid Row doing drugs? The brother was living in Hermosa and was arrested there. He wound up in Skid Row. That was no coincidence. They will harass them until they leave.

I am a supporter of making drugs legal and available for purchase. Its not possible to stop everyone from using drugs, there is going to be a certain percentage of people who will become drug addicts no matter what. So make it available for them to buy so they know what they are getting.

It might not completely take the demand off the street because people might be able to get it cheaper on the black market, but it will reduce crime because you don't have as much street activity with gangs killing each other over territory.

I am not saying legalizing it is the perfect solution. Something else will likely pop up and it might create a new problem, but overall I think it would be better to make drugs legal.

With that said, it will never happen because there are a lot of people who have too much to gain with drugs being illegal.

This is an article from 2020 about decriminalization of drugs.
