Well, at least she learned that day that you can disobey authority figures trying to help you become a better person, have them assault you, then have them fired.
Who said they don't teach life skills in high school anymore?

Since when do we need a cop to handle a braty disrespectful kid at school. This girl didn't do anything that kids have done since the beginning of kids being little shits. Some of y'all need to relax.

Did you miss the part where she refused to respond to the teacher, then the school administrators?
I take it you've been sleeping under a rock the last 20 years if you think the school setting hasn't changed. Teachers and administrators aren't allowed to do anything that relates to discipline anymore. Lawsuits are filed and media are contacted daily around the country because administrators dare to discipline the children.

I have no doubt that physical force needed to be used. Except flipping over a desk with a child in it and dragging her across the room in a brutal manner didn't have to be it.
Perhaps, just perhaps, there's action to be taken in between politely asking and being brutal with the girl.
I agree with this post. When I grew up in EBR Parish public schools in the 70's junior and senior high school if we got out of line a teacher, coach, asst principal or principal whipped our arse with a wooden paddle with holes cut out of it. And they didn't discriminate. White, black, boy or girl you got it, you mostly learned from it or at least the consequence of your action and moved on. You mouthed off it was the board and normally, with very few exceptions you mouthed off once. Once.
There was no need for an enforcement officer. E.A. Ackory at Westdale Junior High busted your arse.
As old as I am now I remember that and most problems were solved. We did not have the shite they have now. You couldn't give me a winning powerball ticket to get me to teach in a public school.

You think a physical altercation was the only way to deal with this situation. She wouldn't leave the class room this shite happens daily across the country and it doesn't end like this. This wasn't some unique situation. It was a teenager not listening.
Schools haven't been able to use physical punishment for decades. They found ways to deal with these situations, which happen daily.

They have not found ways to deal with these situations and that is the problem. They aren't allowed to deal with these situations.

It wouldn't happen daily if we had more awesome officers doing daddy's jobs. Or hell daddy's doing daddy's jobs.

This same situation happens across the country every day and teachers are able to handle it. They are allowed to handle things like this and they do. You seem to think the only way I handle it is with force.

Please, Dizz, enlighten us all. What was the proper way to get the defiant teen out of her desk? She not only refused to comply with the teacher, administrator, and then the officer. But she took a swing at the officer when he was near her.
What should have been done?
What should have been done?

Still waiting. How should it have been handled? Add the phrase, "or else"? Start counting to 3?

I am pretty good friends with both the District Superintendent and the HS principal in my town. We discussed this issue while standing on the sidelines watching the football teams warm up Friday.
They both said that their policy is to clear the room if a LE were to be called in to handle a student. Even if no extra class room is available. Just take them all down the hall. The reason being that under no circumstance do you want video footage taken of what might have to take place to handle the situation. I was happy to hear that they both use common sense.

How about physically restraining her and removing her from the desk?
Not putting his forearm around her neck/chest, grabbing her leg, and flipping her and the entire desk over and then grabbing her arm and leg and using that to throw/drag her across the floor?
This isn't just any police officer, it's a school resource officer, who should have proper training in how to restrain students who are being disobedient to the point of requiring force.
One could argue that the desk-flipping was a result of him trying to restrain her and her resisting, but once she was flipped over and he grabbed her and threw her any sympathy I had for that guy went out the window. He clearly let the child's attitude get the best of him, lost his cool, and chose to use a type of force that wasn't required to restrain her.
