the C/K Chevrolet and GMC trucks from the 1990s were very good products,

350 with throttle body injection was one of the most dependable engines out there. I know several guys that got over 200,000 miles on them and they are still going strong.

I had a 1988 GMC Sierra when I was in high school, and that was the most reliable, low maintenance vehicles I ever had.

GM had a run of great engines.

The 350 with throttle body, the 4.3 (which was the 5.7 with two cylinders cut off)

The 3800 multiport v6 they were using in the 90's.

The 305/5.0 v-8 was also a good one. Gm had these great pushrod engines and just switched them up.

You are citing anecdotal evidence to debate this study.

The Tacoma is the highest rated truck....read the study. LINK

They still do, according to the study. LINK
If I'm reading that correctly, Chevrolet trucks have similar statistical defect rates as they did in the late 1990s.

We have three of the top 10, including a Prius that many of you bash at every opportunity. Of course, there is a big difference between reliability/resale value and "fun to drive." The Prius is the former, the latter...not so much.

The Land Cruiser is probably one of my favorites. They are very expensive though....I'd like a late 1980s model as a 3rd vehicle.

Had a Hyundai Genesis. Fell apart at 50 thousand miles. In warranty but got told over and over that since the problem did not show up on their computer, Hyundai would not allow a repair. Never again.

You made a funny. If you only knew how much power people have put through the 04+ transmisisons without trouble. Hell, that is one of the only things that hasn't gone wrong with my truck(08)

The new AFM trucks disagree. Losing one quart of oil in 3000mi is acceptable as per GM. The VortecMax 6.0 would knock like a mf'er on most trucks when it was cold. Non-AFM 6.2 and the 6.0 they put in the 2500 trucks are the best they have right now. They 6.0 is the best by far

Hyundai have improved their "new car quality" score tremendously (and they've got some nice looking models), and I've asked friends if they would consider buying a Hyundai, and most seem open-minded about it. But I tell them that there's no way in such a short amount of time that Hyundai could produce cars that compete in long-term quality/reliability with manufacturers that have been producing high-quality cars for far longer. Of course I could be wrong, but your experience is supporting my theory.

one of the only cars i regret getting rid of is #1 on the best...it was, however, a bit of a guzzler.

GMC, Chevrolet, and Toyota have the fewest powertrain defects in the business right now according to the linked study in the OP. Nissan and Ford have some of the highest.

The study includes everything manufactured from the mid 1990s to 2009 as it stands today, so that's 3-4 years of 300,000+ sales for a statistical sample.

I've got a 2007 5.3L AFM model with 130,000 miles. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned by far...but I'm diligent with maintenance. I've had no trouble at all.

The older C/K models from the 1990s do have a higher score.

For all trucks:

IIRC, AFM was 2007+. They really start to get bad when the trucks hit 50-100,000mi. Most people don't drive that much in 2 years so...
