That seems like that would cause an overflow issue..not a cooling issue.
My father in law is an HVAC guy and he’s been working 14 hours a day the last month and says most of his calls during that time are the drainage line is partially clogged which is causing units to work overdrive to cool the house and they can’t keep up

We leave most lights off, ceiling fans running, AC running and bought a window unit.
House still gets up to fkn 78-79 degrees.

I have two 5 tons and a 3 ton plus 2x6 walls and foam insulation. The units will hold at 70 but it cant get any lower until around 7/8:00.
Subtle brag on the 8k sq ft house.

My old system struggled for years. Old, as in 20+ years old. So, I bought a portable, kept internal doors closed, and had ceiling fans running just to keep it tolerable.
I replaced my inside and outside unit (and some duct work) recently. It has made a huge difference. I do still run my portable, keep internal doors closed, and have ceiling fans running. But, my system runs way less. So, not only is it almost always more than tolerable but my electric bill is continuing to drop. Big but to drop but it seems to be paying itself off.

I wonder how many of you have verified the actual temperature in your homes? Have you even gotten a good thermometer and compared it to what your thermostat/panel says?

That might make the moon too hot. I'd hate to see that.

Thankfully it was just the capacitor and he got it back up and running in an hour.
Got a spare after it bit me a few years ago.

This is the sort of heat that will expose some efficiency issues. Dirty coils, leaks, and poor insulation can be a factor.
I had an issue recently, AC guy came over. Definitely go rinse off your outside coils if your unit is struggling. It will help. Mine were filthy.

Not with high pressure. It will bend the fins. Use a garden sprayer.

Don't do this unless its a 2 hose variety. Or just buy a window unit. Google why most "portable" a/c's are straight garbage.

Everything was fine until the capacitor had to be replaced on the upstairs unit. AC repair guy was able to come the next day. Brother brought me a window unit to get me through the night.

My house was new when we bought it. The walls are concrete internally and it’s supposedly energy efficient.
Bottom line: our system isn’t large enough for our house. I’m ready to drop k’s on a new system for next year.
Only problem is that our summers haven’t been this bad for about 2 or 3 years.

I never talk about what could go wrong with something when it’s working its arse off. I’m a retired electrician. shite happens. Be thankful if your A/C is working like it should. Electric bills are going to be outrageous. Especially with Natural Gas is going back up. It is what it is because I like being cool

There are some good YouTube videos that break down why they're a bad idea.

always keep a spare one just in case. Incredibly easy DIY
Actually going with a preemptive strike early Saturday morning. Going replace both and clean the coils.

Window units look trashy but they do make a world of difference
