Knock on wood, mine is doing allright. It’s only four years old though and the house is well insulated. I keep it at 74 during daylight hours and bring it down to 71 around 8:00.

We keep ours at 72 degrees all day and night. We have 3 goldens and trust me you will know it when they are hot. The tongues are hanging out and they drink water 24/7. Its been around a 100 degrees out here also but our house is only four years and hopefully everything keeps going until the fall.

Don't. They're shite. Just buy a window unit.

I still don't get why we have the problem of AC units that cost tens of thousands of dollars in some cases that can't do the job a $500 window unit does.

Had a new unit put in four years ago.. working hard but at least under warranty.. had my ac guy out and said ac is fine but suggested a new blower to push it out better to farther places of house.. furnace and blower is over 30 years old .. have a new furnace and variable fan coming in next week.. mentioned my insulation was looking old .. yeah I have been in the house over thirty years and knew it needs more but 30 years of crap stored in it..I was an idiot… sooo spent the last few days in the worst heat in years getting 30 years of “ priceless “ stuff out of a two story house attic and to the curb.. putting in another ten inches of insulation in a week … buuut… figured I need to get the water bomb out of the attic and switching to a waterless ….

I am a cranky guy

BTW ( had a new roof put on after 20 year last month) … guys want to know the exact time and date we last had a red cell pop up 30 minute deluge of a storm in katy texas…. I can tell you to the minute:( roof was off and not dried in and complicated roof line so tarp only worked on about 70 percent…)

They just finished ripping out and replacing ceilings and insulation on that part t least.

Y’all need to have the units cleaned. It makes a huge difference in efficiency and it’s really easy. Just make sure to disconnect from the power supply

I’ve got an old house and about a 15 yr old unit. It’s surprisingly not terrible.

Keep it on 72 during the day and it will slip to 75-76 on these miserable hot days, but will be back down to about 72 by about 10pm then I’ve got it set for 68 during night time and it will catch up to that by 3-4 am, then it will have a rest for 4-6 hours as it sets back to 72 at 6 am.

I'll say the same thing I always do. A couple good fans and a good dehumidifier will help tremendously. Dry the air and keep it moving. Everything will work more efficiently.

My kid’s rooms are on the west side the house, we put 5000BTU window units in their rooms, made all the difference in the world.

Is this one of those poor people problems

Not really.

You want to size your A/C, ideally, where it runs "all day" during the hottest day of the year.

If it's too small, it won't keep up on average.

If it's too big, it won't stay on "long enough" so humidity becomes an issue.

Multi-stage units solve some of this.

I currently probably have a "too large" unit (5 ton).

Check the drain line. That’s the biggest cause of struggle for ac systems right now

I have two 5 tons and a 3 ton plus 2x6 walls and foam insulation. The units will hold at 70 but it cant get any lower until around 7/8:00.

Small window units will never be praised enough during heat waves like this. I’ve got a cheap one from Ida that I left in my bedroom but it doesn’t have any controls other than on/off, so when it’s on it runs constantly. I’m considering getting a nicer one that will come on and off as needed because if my bedroom door is open, it cools damn near the entire back part of my house without the central air on. I’ve used it to supplement my central air lately and it’s been a workhorse.

That seems like that would cause an overflow issue..not a cooling issue.

Replace roof shingles with mirrors, profit for house and global warming. So obvious.

Yeah, until the next hailstorm and you get 8,200 years of bad luck.
