A break from the the election year media frenzy - Acura unveils their new TLX sedan

Hopefully this will help draw your attention away from the media's latest election year racial wedge issue in Minneapolis (be glad it's not Baton Rouge this year), if only momentarily.....
Like a lot of car companies, they are unveiling it virtually because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
LINK
It comes standard with a 270 horsepower engine, and it's available with a rear wheel drive bias all wheel drive system. All models come with a 10 speed automatic, which replaces the much-hated 9 speed in the previous generation Acura.
Power numbers aren't out for the Type S model, but it's likely to be well north of 350 horsepower. This could be the first Acura sedan that I've liked in over a decade.
The double wishbone front suspension is back BTW. Handling should be better than the front drive competitors.

The second-generation TLX also marks the highly anticipated return of Acura's Type S high performance variant after a decade-long hiatus. The TLX Type S, arriving next spring, will be powered by an all-new Acura exclusive 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine developed for Type S levels of performance. Additionally, the new TLX Type S will be the first Type S model to feature Acura's torque vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system, making it the best handling and most performance-oriented Acura sedan yet.

Acura should’ve never done away with the Type S.
Their cars over the past 5 or so years have been uninspiring at best...and this comes from a Honda guy.
This is a step back in the right direction.

I’d rather drive my 11 year old 5 series.

Looks good.
I'd pay more for the Lexus ES or Cadillac CT5, but I would definitely consider the new Acura - especially the Type S.

Ah...a favorite among independent mechanics.

Can someone explain to me the need for a 10 speed? Or even a 9 speed? I'm a little old school and I don't think I've ever had a vehicle with more than a 6 speed transmission. My old Grand Cherokee had a 5 speed auto. Pretty sure my Highlander has a 6 speed auto. I know my old Ram had a 4 speed auto. Both my Jeeps were 5 speed manuals. Do the higher gears see much use outside of highway speeds?

The next time Acura redesigns the TLX, it probably won't have a transmission at all.

Is it molotov cocktail proof?

No...that's a big oversight. But it has adaptive cruise control.

It’s totally worth the price to upkeep it. This year I changed out all of the front suspension bushings, the motor mounts, the power steering fluid reservoir and hoses, the valve cover gasket, the battery, the spark plugs, the starter, manifold gasket, the washer fluid motor, rear brakes and rotors....and I’m STILL leaking gas out of the top of my fuel tank. I have buy the filter and sending unit and pull the back seat to fish the old one out. I’ll get some cabin filters and rear window gaskets while I’m at it.
I guess that proves I’d rather drive it than a new car.

Replaced my shift knob after 140k miles (on it, not the car), covered up my idrive scratched wheel thingy, replaced the gasket around the back window, bought a sunroof tool to keep in the trunk (after a stuck open scare)...I can’t really think of anything else. Maintenance really isn’t as bad as you’d think.
