I don't want to mislead you or Monty - I'm not your average white boy - I was the only white kid in my circle in high school. At one point, my student job was as support staff for the minority engineering students at LSU - my boss (a black lady) only seemed to hire white student workers ( ).

I've worked with, for and around black folks my whole life.

One thing you could do is go to you local bank and ask do they participate in any type of financial outreach programs. If they do, organize some events with local churches and community centers. Lack of financial education contributes to the poverty cycle as well.

In my experience, very few.

White or black, true bigots are the minority.

Ours in BR get extorted by the activists who use Alton Sterling's death as a bargaining chip in their threat to protest

I have to think that they informed the employee that they were meeting someone, could be wrong though.

I mean, we have to assume they gave SOME reason. I can imagine a number of scenarios/factors:

1. Nervous white lady not comfortable with a couple of, perhaps gregarious gentlemen of African extraction.

2. Couple of dudes with a chip on their shoulder (perhaps justified, perhaps not) looking for something to get upset about

3. Miscommunication between some or all of the staff - maybe they told the cashier, but the manager didn't hear

Or maybe even some combination of the above.

Situation could have been handled better by all involved.

The problem is that we're all calm, reasonable and acting rationally. Unless everybody does that all the time, we're going to have situations like this that crop up.

That's why I want to focus on practical, productive issues. We can talk until the cows come home about what bad shite happened (hell, I'm a historian, by education).

But change must be a vector grounded in the present and pointing forward. "But, but - RACISM!" - isn't going to fix a GD thing.

I try to explain this to people. The energy has to be refocused.

Not giving anyone my money that doesn't want me. That's stupid.

I think this was the main issue. They weren’t giving their money to Starbucks at all. They just wanted to hangout/meet up there.

If the manager had asked them to buy something or leave and they bought a $3 muffin, the whole situation is avoided. The issue is that they wanted to use the Starbucks facilities without purchasing anything from the business.

The black community continues to get fleeced based on color alone. We have this jackhole here in Houston called Quanell X and he robs these communities blind b/c he has them convinced he's the second coming of Jesus.

It's really sad to see but a fool and his money are soon parted.

While that may be true, participating in these community outreach programs costs the banks nothing but a few hours of man power and long term it is a better investment by the bank because it yields money through adding depositors later.

Gravy steals money from the bank in the name of Alton Sterling's death and proceeds to throw himself a black ball and give no money to the Sterling family

Im surprised no one has put that pos in a trunk yet in North BR

I have seen some of his videos taking white people to task on issues and he turns it into an accountability of a historic event. My question is this, fine, we get white people to acknowledge all the wrongs, what do you do going forward to strengthen yourself? It is sad to see them be so dependent and needy for someone to always speak for them or help them. Being successful today is not that hard. You can just emulate what you see another successful person do and be better off. The defeated attitude and mindset is sickening.

Me too man.

We don't have kids, can't have kids of our own due to a cancer scare with Mrs. Tyger.

So I'm thinking about getting involved with kids that need some advice, attention, and a ear to bend. It's a lot to commit to, but I'm considering it.

Our last one goes to college in the fall.

Just read on the website for metro Atlanta that 44% of the kids in the program have an incarcerated parent. 92% from low income families. 81% free lunch program. 74% single parent. 88% black or hispanic.

The 44% figure is the one that really gets you.

"Dindu" didn't come from thin air I'm sure you would agree.

This actually brings to mind a question I have been wondering. So as annoying as it can be when I constantly see people on the OT use that term, it is based in some truth. There is a huge problem with parents babying their kids. I remember all throughout school growing up, my classmates would get in trouble. So, naturally the teachers would call their parents. Unfortunately, for many students that wasnt a good idea. Some parents would always defend their child, always. They would start cursing the teacher out all kinds of ways, because they for some reason would "falsely accuse their child". At this point there really isnt much the school or the teacher can do, because the parent is not on their side. They will always side with their child no matter the issue.

Of course, my mother wasnt like this. If my teacher called my mom, she would already be on the way to school to beat my behind

I grew up in all black schools. And unfortunately, all of the "dindus" are usually young black males. So, is this something that appears a lot in majority white schools as well? Parents sticking up for their kids no matter what refusing to punish them.. I am honestly genuinely interested. I wonder is this a race thing, generation thing, or what.

He's just a race hustler. Period. Yet the black communities are so blinded by what these other pastors and race hustlers like Quanell X say, it's hard to get them to form their own opinion AND to realize that they are getting robbed.

Every marginalized community needs their own version of Robin Hood or a savior, but they are failing to see the outright theft. Literally every person QX has represented (to my knowledge) has gotten zero return on their investment.

Don't take my word for it

Didn't mean to hijack your thread baw. Sorry about that

It actually is a thing in white schools, but it’s called “helicopter parenting” then.

My wife taught at a school that was in an affluent area and probably 80-85% white. She’ll tell you that the worst part of the job was dealing with parents that would swoop in and save the day every time a kid cut up, or blew off the work.

So yeah, there are white “Dindus” (I hate using this term) just as much as there are black ones. Different reasons but it all stems from a lack of accountability.
