Legit question.

If a Muslim American citizen dressed in your stereotypical muslim threads, large beard, etc.. walked into Wally world with an AK47/AR "tactical" appearing rifle hanging from his back what do you think the response would be? should be?

*general question, not just in response to post.

Not every state allows open carry, so limits to it are allowed.

I find it odd that you need a permit to conceal carry but not one to open carry. It seems like that should be the opposite.

Would be? He'd probably get shot, detained at the very least.

Should be? It's hard to find a reason anything should be done based on the 2nd amendment.

After 9/11... If there was a Middle eastern muslim looking man walking around with a bomb.. He is just walking around with it, never set it off.. Just walking around NYC with this bomb that all he had to do was connect and set off.. What would have happened to him?

He would be arrested genius, just like every other person would walking around with a bomb strapped to themselves.

Here is Missouri's statute:

571.037. Open display of firearm permitted, when. — Any person who has a valid concealed carry endorsement issued prior to August 28, 2013, or a valid concealed carry permit, and who is lawfully carrying a firearm in a concealed manner, may briefly and openly display the firearm to the ordinary sight of another person, unless the firearm is intentionally displayed in an angry or threatening manner, not in necessary self defense.

You should read the statute for a terroristic threat, it's really not idiotic to charge him with that

I know, and there are various other limits and infringements on the 2nd amendment. I just find it amusing hardline 2A folks are cool with this guy getting detained for carrying a "scary" gun. That same logic is going to get AR-15s and similar looking guns banned.

lol, ok. I just wanted to ask because these threads always have those people who would say "I'd ignore him because it is his right to carry all of that."

This is a weird predicament - I believe open carry is an absolute right based on the 2A, but I also believe the vast majority of guys who open carry are imbeciles. I don't want the law to change based on the principle of the matter, but I'd be lying if I said I cared about the people who would truly be affected.

If you conceal carry no one knows you have a gun. Why do you need a permit if no one knows you have a gun?

You should need an easily obtainable permit to open carry instead while needing nothing to conceal carry.

If you don't see that there is more than that going on in this situation, you need to start taking the short bus to school.

Perhaps that was his intent?

Has any more information come out yet on motive?

Have you read the thread? It's turned into people wanting open carry to require a permit or to be banned altogether.

I get open carry of a pistol. Anyone that open carries a military style gun with multiple rounds while wearing body armor, in this day and age, needs to be stopped.

I don't see how you can allow open carry outside of rural areas. We're trying to have a society here.

ETA: I'm talking about long guns.

you can be detained on suspicion. If he didn't intend to shoot up the joint, then his intentions were to get a reaction and that's the reaction he got. You can't incite panic.

It has to be suspicion of a specific crime just general suspicious behavior is not grounds to detain someone. I think what is going to get this guy if he is charged with anything will be when he asked about buying something that could hurt people (or something like that).
