YES. They are being subsidized. I’m in the business. EVERY solar and wind farm is subsidized.

They are getting special tax breaks to do it.

So we're against tax breaks now?

Are tax breaks considered to be subsidies if its for something we don't like?

Yes, but they shouldn't be. At least not for giant solar farms like this.

Why? What makes them different from residential systems?

Yes when there are so few jobs involved.

You’re getting hung up on the long term local jobs. Think of it more like a pipeline. There will be a shite load of construction workers, electricians, engineers, linesman etc. working on this. And while there may only be a couple local jobs, there are teams of people monitoring, ordering reviews by drones, and more to keep these producing how they need to be to keep the economics right side up.

Yeah it's inconsistent to be for tax breaks for a refinery and against tax breaks for a solar farm.

98.1-megawatt solar farm on 1,000 acres

Wow, you can put a 200MW gas turbine on maybe 5-10 acres. Another 10 gets a heat recovery unit for another 25-50 MW.
I'm all for new energy methods but I'm just not sure solar will get anywhere close to gas methods. Environmental, cost, life span, etc.

Early steam turbines couldn't power an electrical grid either. This is first generation stuff. It'll get more efficient.

Solar is by far the largest footprint for energy. It’s really best deployed in useless places like Arizona and West Texas. But who am I to tell landowners and investors what to do with their land.

This thread actually brings up a good point, how different each gen type is and what they all need. Look at the discrepancy in FTE needed to run a 200MW and recovery unit compared to the solar. Jobs can be good, but solid state technology has benefits like lower labor costs. To get an idea how this all works you really need to compare the long term economics.

I'm hoping they use Array Technologies, because that stock needs to bounce back

How much manpower is required to generate the same amount of power using "traditional" sources?

Obviously a nuclear plant requires more manpower, but it also can generate a helluva lot more power than basically just the combined homes of the Watson/Walker metroplex.

It’s disingenuous to compare them to the first generation of solar modules. 1954 would be accurate and when the Si modules were developed at 6% efficiency. And the efficiency has be climbing rapidly since investment started pouring into the industry in the 2000s.

Similarly to fracking. Money shows up, tech advances, good shite happens.

Using 1800 for PV is like comparing modern oil to whale oil.
