Will support a whopping 3 permanent jobs if you count the two guys hired to mow the grass.

With utilities such as Entergy, Cleco and LUS looking to buy renewable energy, another solar farm is being proposed in Louisiana.

A $98 million solar farm in Morehouse Parish is seeking tax breaks for manufacturing renewable power, according to an advance notification filed with the state economic development office.

Bayou Galion Solar Project LLC, a subsidiary of Recurrent Energy Development Holdings, proposes building a 98.1-megawatt solar farm on 1,000 acres leased from landowners outside of Bastrop. That has the potential to power 20,500 homes.

The company is also a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, a publicly traded business that manufactures solar panels and builds solar farms.

Are they getting special subsidies to do this? If not, then why get upset about market forces deciding that this is a good idea. I'm guessing this is just part of a portfolio of energy and nobody is going to 100% rely on it.

BTW, the purpose of infrastructure is not to "create" jobs. You shouldn't select technologies based on which ones require the most labor. That'd be stupid.

No.

Their subsidy is a built in market for their product from Entergy. We should not be giving tax breaks for solar farms that will eat up 1,000 acres of agriculture-ready land.

I’d much prefer seeing the solar panels on a drive through Louisiana than looking at all the other shite it currently offers.

Ahh yes, ruining prime AG land, that are net carbon consumers to install shite that is inefficient and will lead to tons of environmental issues to dispose of.

Not far from our farm, those only work when the tax payers front load the costs similar to ethanol plants.

I hate these projects. The power company up here installed a giant solar farm and raised my rates per kwh permanently to pay for it. I'd be surprised if it provided enough daily average power across the year to power a neighborhood of its acreage.

It's fricking northern Indiana where 6 months of the year its overcast and the damned things are covered in snow.

What the hell else is going on in Morehouse Parish? If it were prime farmland wouldn't it have been farmed by now?

I find it funny everyone gets bent out of shape about these when it’s land owners and investors exercising their right to do whatever the frick they want with their property.

Recurrent energy finds a buyer for the farm which in this case in Entergy because Entergy doesn’t want them on their system and Entergy sees it as a PR move for them.

They will be increasing the value of the land and will start paying the increased property taxes after 10 years. If they don't build it that land will not increase in value anytime soon.

I guarentee it was farm land. Just like the piece around BR.

Landowners like these because there is a set amount you are guaranteed. Makes it a lot easier to use in financial dealings. You can use the set payments as collateral instead of the land itself.
