Hope you gents are holding up ok. At least we have a generator and one room with a window unit.

Some folks will be struggling.

I'll never understand people with the means staying, even in relatively minor storms for this reason alone.

It fricking sucks.

I don't think that you have much to worry about

I have power now but I remember that feeling during Katrina with no power and no generator and no window unit AC for a week. I would put my one year-old son in his car seat in my truck with the air running so he could sleep while we sat out under the carport shooing off mosquitoes and love bugs

My family in the Riverbend area south of LSU got power back yesterday. I guess they got lucky there.

I have the means and will always stay if a storm is headed towards Houston. Then I'll assess damage, secure anything that needs to be secured, and leave town until the power comes back on.

But I feel for those that can't - it sucks for sure.

Do we know what is taking so long? Were the transformers damaged?

It’s one thing to put up with this weather without power. But when authorities and local news people repeatedly preaching entergy and telling you to “be patient” without give any specifics, it pisses you off.

The entire system has varied levels of damage from generation to transmission to distribution. It takes time to assess, deploy resources with the proper equipment and supplies and repair.

I lived in Riverbend during Katrina and we lost power for about two hours only. 13 people moved in!!

I’m far enough from the coast that I could actually stay for almost any size hurricane, but I can’t stand weeks of no power with 90+ degree heat

100%

People ask "why are you running from a storm?"

Because i have the money to and i don't want to be miserable for days without access to basic resources.

We certainly have the means to take off, but we value the $600-800 more than our comfort.

I might not say that in 20 years or if we had kids, but right now I’m just enjoying a shady breeze

We stayed and we have kids - although we have a generator and one window unit. It doesn’t hurt for them to sweat a bit.

6 weeks without power in Lake Charles after Laura. Definitely not fun to deal with generator power for that long.

91 degrees isn't bad if you have shade, water, and aren't fat or in really poor health.

on second thought, looks like a lot of folks will be struggling.

I would not leave my home under any circumstances. If anything happens I want to be there to take care of it. Now after the storm passes, I may leave and head somewhere with power and AC.

I’m fine.

The 2700w Generac is probably getting pretty hot out there though

We never lost power fortunately, but I was without power for close to 2 weeks for both Katrina and Gustav. It sucked so bad. We didn't evacuate, but had we lost power, I would have driven somewhere far away and set up in a hotel until our power was restored. No way I would ever hang around for 2 weeks without power again.

Same here. I live in Cypress and feel that I need to stay off the road so that those south of me can get out. It everybody tries to leave, nobody will be able to. I also work for a hospital and will be going to work every day, no matter what is going on at my house. I also want the opportunity to get a tarp up if the roof is leaky and avoid other damage.

It's not fun, but it's bearable. We were without electricity for 2.5 weeks after Ike and without water for a week. We planned for the possibility and had a generator to keep things charged and run some fans.
