A 9-year-old boy retrieved a gun from his parents' bedroom and shot his 13-year-old sister to death, authorities said, after the two got into an argument over a video game controller.

The incident occurred over the weekend in rural Monroe County, Mississippi, as the children's mother was preparing lunch in the kitchen, the country sheriff said.

The boy grabbed a handgun, which was kept in a nightstand next to the bed, and shot the sister in the back of the head, the sheriff said.

So, what happens to the boy? Does anyone get charged with murder? Why allow children access to your guns?

An age limit on gun purchases would have prevented this

When I posted this earlier, it turned into a religious debate and I got a ton of downvotes. Maybe you will have better luck.

Well if you believe the Liberals and the media...nothing should happen to the kid. Remember...people don't kill people...Guns kill people. The gun on the other hand is likely to be charged with murder.

Isn't that how it works?

When I read this earlier, they didn't state if she had died or not...condition was unknown. What does a family do in this situation? Obviously terrible to have a child die, but what if your young child did it on purpose? How do you deal with that? How do you look at your own 9 year old who knows better, but is still too young to really get it? How do you not just give up on him, but also how do you....he's your son. How do you not constantly think about what he's done to your family? I have no clue what I'd do as a parent (other than not have guns accessible by 9 year olds).

Amazing a 9 year old knew where the handgun was and could access it. It's very doubtful this is the first tantrum he threw, parents should have had the guns under lock and key.

It would have been more disturbing as he would have just stabbed her with a blade from the kitchen.

His anger got the best of him, but damn this dumb arse kid must have hated his sister.

He sure TOLD HER!!

Bet he kept playing afterwards too like nothing was up.
