You are laughing at me getting the correct answer?

9 – 3 ÷ 1/3 + 1 = ?
A) That's a very poorly written problem, intended to be confusing. No real engineer or anyone else with a firm grasp of math would write a problem in that manner.
B) As is it written, the answer is 9.

That doesn't end the thread though because whatever a-hole.wrote the problem used "÷" and "/" which leads to.confusuikna nd would.neber happen in a real world problem.
Still not as confusing as the jibberish you just typed.

The answer is 9
There is no debate you retards

Anyone saying 9 is doing this:
3 * 1/3 = 1 + 9 - 1 = 9
But the answer is dividing by 1/3
3 / 1/3 = 3 * 3/1 = 9
9 - 9 + 1 = 1
Edit: apparently the 9s are interpreting this as (3 divided by 1) divided by 3. Which means they’re adding some weird parentheses that dont exist. It’s actually more confusing trying to piece together incorrect logic
3 * 1/3 = 1 + 9 - 1 = 9
But the answer is dividing by 1/3
3 / 1/3 = 3 * 3/1 = 9
9 - 9 + 1 = 1

9-3/1/3+1
9-3 / 1/3 +1
9-x+2
X= 3/ 1/3
X=9
9- (9) + 1
0+1= 1
One final answer.
9-3 / 1/3 +1
9-x+2
X= 3/ 1/3
X=9
9- (9) + 1
0+1= 1
One final answer.

It depends on if the 1/3 is a fraction or if it is a shorthand for division.
Considering that if it were supposed to be division I would think it would be written as 9-(3÷1)/3+1 I will go with it being a fraction, so...
3÷1/3 = 9
9-9 = 0
0+1 = 1

It's 1 my man...anything besides that is bad engineering and a waste of a degree, i guess

If you couldn't figure it out before the edit, you're not going to be the one explaining anything regardless.

The spaces have nothing to do with it. It's the fact that they used ÷ and /.
If they used two ÷ signs, the answer would be 9. But since they used a ÷ and /, it's clear that you are supposed to be dividing 3 by one-third.

I know I just wanted to quote what you typed before the edit and make fun of your fat thumbs.

1/3 is understood to be a fraction if there is a division sign IMMEDIATELY before it.
Posted on 1/26/18 at 9:37 am to TDsngumbo
9 – 3 ÷ 1/3 + 1
=9 - 3 / 3 + 1
=9 - 1 + 1
= 9
There are no parentheses around the "1/3" which is why it isn't 1
=9 - 3 / 3 + 1
=9 - 1 + 1
= 9
There are no parentheses around the "1/3" which is why it isn't 1

If 1/3 is a fraction, the answer has to be 1.
I hate these poorly written problems.

quote:they are both signs for division. You work left to right.
But since they used a ÷ and /, it's clear that you are supposed to be dividing 3 by one-third.
The issue comes from fricking spaces which have no place in basic arithmetic....
