This is a real real estate listing for a home in San Mateo, CA

This is a function of both market demand and government regulation on zoning, new development, and rent control, not liberalism.

Sooner or later, the bubble in the Bay will pop. Some savvy folks will make a killing and the out of control market for housing will be corrected.

Capitalist. It’s worth what someone will pay for it.

I'm not denying the connection between the two, it's just that there are a variety of factors that play in to real estate cost in the Bay (as well as every other urban or suburban part of CA). It just can't be squarely placed at the stupidity of Left Coastism - the desirability of the area, as well as potential income, play a huge part.

If both parties end up with a net benefit, the price doesn't matter... it's a beautiful system

It's funny knowing that the people who are paying astronomically high and outrageous prices for property in the Bay Area are the same people (overwhelming majority) who hate capitalism and worship liberalism.

We can get into WHY supply is so low but this is a result of supply and demand. There's no denying that demand is very high in that area.

That really isn't that bad considering some nice condos in the Quarter go for $800+ per square foot.

The market works on us all whether we like it or not.

These are the kind of people that also rely on zoning laws and regulations to help keep property values artificially high.

Yep.

There's a story I read yesterday about a zoning violation in San Fran that costs a guy 2 million dollars. It was housing for disabled vets.

1st house I bought in '83 was 6 blocks from the house listed. Tract 2 bed, 1 bath, 1008 sf on a 7900 sf lot. I paid 101K for it which was considered pretty steep at the time.Sold it in '86 for 142K which was considered absurd. Just Zillowed the address...The place sold last November for $1.02million. Insanity. It's that proximity to Silicon Valley.

I've been to SF close to ten times for a variety of periods ranging from two days to a month. Still, in all this time, I have no fricking clue where poor people live other than the street or BART vehicles.
