$2.2M for something that looks like a crack house. A great deal...only in the Bay Area.

It’s a tear down. They don’t make dirt anymore. Location, location, location.

That really isn't that bad considering some nice condos in the Quarter go for $800+ per square foot.

That's for a home. This is for the dirt a home sits on.

This is a tear-down. The house has been condemned. You are paying $2.2 mil, plus the cost of demolition and new construction.

I get that is a tear down. What I don't get is why the frick someone thought 5 bedroom house was good with only 2 bathrooms.

Well then what an odd thing to focus on. It’s an old building on extremely valuable property. The owner is popping bottles of extremely expensive champagne while we debate the stupidity of Californians.

The idea of having a bunch of bathrooms is a relatively recent thing, when this house was built 2 bathrooms was considered the epitome of luxury. 99% of the 3 bedroom houses built in the 50s, 60s and 70s had 1 bathroom, in some parts of the country this trend extended into the 80s in all but custom designed homes.

1st house I bought in '83 was 6 blocks from the house listed. Tract 2 bed, 1 bath, 1008 sf on a 7900 sf lot. I paid 101K for it which was considered pretty steep at the time.Sold it in '86 for 142K which was considered absurd. Just Zillowed the address...The place sold last November for $1.02million. Insanity. It's that proximity to Silicon Valley.

I grew up in Palo Alto in a 1000 sq ft 3 bedroom in a working class neighborhood that had houses with cars on blocks. Just looked it up and Redfin estimates it at over 2 million. Just crazy.
