I’m not sure how people don’t have everything on direct deposit and auto withdrawal?

Is it paycheck to paycheck if you contribute max to 401k but don't have cash left over at end of month?

The phrase “paycheck to paycheck” is stupid. Everyone lives paycheck to paycheck. The difference is what you do with it.

There is about as much chance of me putting New Orleans sewage & water board on auto withdrawal as the sun exploding tomorrow.

If you have funds available for retirement or other savings, you aren't living paycheck to paycheck. Paycheck to paycheck means every penny in goes out for bills, etc. No savings, no emergency funds. Hence not being able to afford $500 for car repair or $1000 for an ER visit.

Because you have people who have a combined income of 100k living in $300,000 homes and driving $50,000 vehicles.

You’d still be able to live comfortably with this. $7k a month, $650 a month for a car note, $1800 for the house note shouldn’t put you at paycheck to paycheck. The problem is having a bunch of kids

Two $50k vehicles on 100k combined? One kid would be a problem..

By a show of honest hands, how many of you do a monthly budget and have every dollar that you're expected to earn allocated to an expense before it goes back out the window?

Monthly budgets weren't exactly working out too well for me so I decided to do a hybrid monthly and weekly budget.

I obviously have some monthly bills like mortgage, utilities, car insurance, and some other BS but I find I do much better if I track my discretionary spending weekly. I don't have separate budgets for food, dining out, entertainment etc. I give myself so much to spend a week and that's the end of that.
