I think he means that living paycheck to paycheck doesn't mean you have enough for retirement savings.

Because you have people who have a combined income of 100k living in $300,000 homes and driving $50,000 vehicles.

A home at that price isn't the problem for people who have planned for it. The vehicles are the problem.

No he doesn't he specifically said he put it into retirement accounts and savings, plainly stating he quite literally doesn't live paycheck to paycheck. Having a budget doesn't equal living paycheck to paycheck.

I can picture you scowling at families in airports having no clue what their financial situation is.

I'm guilty of not doing this. I'm single and don't have any bills, both cars are paid for so I make way more than I spend. But I need to start budgeting my income.

By a show of honest hands, how many of you do a monthly budget and have every dollar that you're expected to earn allocated to an expense before it goes back out the window?

I budget for every pay period. Usually about 6-12 months out. Every dollar I make or expect to make during that time.

I have a fairly elaborate Excel spreadsheet with some macros and nested functions that run automatic calculations when I enter numbers into certain cells. I also run projections on savings and bill/credit balances. I started doing this my senior year of school while I had an internship and made very little money.

I have different tabs in that spreadsheet to track vacations, my car purchase, Christmas gifts, and whatever else comes up.

My autism kicks in bigly when I start managing money.

Living in a fiscally responsible fashion is neither brag worthy or dumb polesmoker. The fact that you think it is brag worthy is noted.

Mine jokes with me about my spreadsheets. "Why don't you drop that into your spreadsheets and see what comes out."

That's the only way I can keep track of everything.

She manages her own money and I'm perfectly fine with that. Her system is chaotic as hell but she keeps up with everything and has a good credit score so I'm good with it.

Lol mine (while getting much much better) is less autistic in her approach but she does allow me to help her with money-related issues. Just in baby steps.

Saving is not a priority for many people. But those same people have the iPhone X. Priorities are fricked.
