These weren't cops going about their daily routine and walking their beat. If this happened during a normal day, I would say your assessment would be reasonable.

No rioting happening. No large crowd in the immediate area.

Where was the cops basic risk assessment?

oooh, i can play this game!

can't wait for a "peaceful protester" to break into a dog shelter, steal some helpless puppies, use them as a social media prop while rioting, and then leave said puppy to die when finished.

ohh wait, that did happen.

no one stopped, everyone walked past!
oh even better, 1 cop stopped, so what??

the guy right behind the shovers obviously called for help immediately. he kept people from touching or moving the knocked out bleeding old man, which is the right thing to do.

you can just be appalled by the cops' actions without having to throw in the "and they just walked by!" lie. you don't have make anything else up to make the story worse. it's sensational and should be called out no matter what side does it.

i see cops that reacted poorly and then immediately regretted it. you see a gang of thugs beating up an old man and remorselessly stroll by. to each his own.

but huurrrrr the boots

You don't even see how your own ideological stance is affecting your perception. You are saying that if a person approaches police, who are prepared for a riot, should have the reasonable expectation of violence by virtue of the fact that the police are prepared for a riot. In addition, the police are so bad at risk assessment that they can't properly categorize someone who is a risk and someone who isn't, negating the need for risk assessment in the first place. If everyone is a potential adversary, then what is the point of the assessment?

No, I'm saying that since there's no way of knowing what's going through the minds of every single cop out there, I'm going to assume their judgement may be clouded by the potentially clouded situation they're dealing with.
quote:

Not only that, you are removing the entire context from this specific situation to justify this extremely flimsy defense of risk assessment, and then resort to some half-assed "bothsideism." For what end, who know? There doesn't seem to be a riot going on in this video, there are absolutely no other protesters near them, and yet these people who are paid by tax dollars are so amped up that they can't even do a proper assessment of the situation. There was one group that escalated the situation, and it wasn't the old man. Again, you aren't making the points you think you are.

Again, I think you're bringing an ideological view to this that doesn't assess what's really going on. I've based this on what I've seen, not how I think these cops should conduct themselves. In fact, I'm assuming the worst of them. Whether that's right or wrong is a different argument. I'm just saying I would go into that exact situation knowing that me getting clocked is a decent possibility.

is there more video that shows there was no riot or large group in the immediate area?

i'm looking and all i can find are videos of the shove and a commentator talking about how they walked past.

I don't know. That's why I assume their mindset is leaning toward conflict.

Exactly what point do you think you’re making here? You’re so consumed with figuring out which flavor of boot you want to try next that you don’t even remotely make sense

Yes, that doesn't change what I said. Again, your idealistic view is clouding your understanding of what I'm saying.

ohh right. am i supposed to believe these officers won't face any consequences and wouldn't face any consequences for your silly arse hypothetical.

no, i don't believe anyone here would.

that's not the point. we're playing this fun hypothetical game aren't we?

Well in this case if there wasn’t a camera filming, the offical report would say that the old man “tripped and fell” so yeah without video evidence they don’t face any consequences

And yes my hypothetical was silly. That was the point.

what is my idealistic view?

and you are saying that I should expect bad outcomes if I walk up to a cop in riot gear, correct?

it's when you change the premise of a debate, in the middle of said debate, especially after it's been shown your premise is false

just like you just did

OP: no one stopped to help, and that's bad!
me: a cop that shoved him stopped, and a cop behind him radioed for help immediately. that's not true.
you: ok fine, 1 cop stopped, but that's still bad

see how you changed it? and you still won't acknowledge the guy with the radio. you skipped everything i typed and just quoted "move them goalposts" because that's the only thing you could come up with a snarky comment about.

good talk though
