Drove up through rural Oklahoma years after it was banned, and the little A frame houses with tethered roosters were still all over in plain view.

Was in Wapanuka by chance? Small town in SE Oklahoma. chicken fighting capital of Oklahoma. Little town but every house had those A frame cages in the backyard. No exaggeration to say over 20 homes you could count just driving through

My brother-in-law has raised roosters in rural Marengo & Hale County +20 yrs. It's recession proof, there's a huge market for his birds and a nice side hustle.

Never heard of strychnine. My Dad used vitamin K to reduce bleeding.

seemed like everybody had something they thought would give them an edge. I remember hearing one dude would give his cocks a high dose of sugar before a fight.

Louisiana was the last state to outlaw cockfighting. Can’t remember when but it was after 2005 bc I remember going to a few with my buddy that used fight them.

Blanco shut it down

The ban was signed into law by Governor Kathleen Blanco on July 12, 2007, and became effective on August 15, 2008. Louisiana was the last state in the US to ban the practice.

Its not illegal here on Guam. Its just not actually legal either. They dont enforce the law here. Its big move business over here. I grew up in lower Alabama as kid and remember going to a few in George county Mississippi as kid.

Former Jeanerette Police Chief appears to have been arrested this morning in Beauregard Parish and charged with cockfighting. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

so Brusly or Addis? Just say where.

It's been years. At one point, there were four large cockpits in Louisiana – the Sunset Recreation Club, Hickory Recreation Club in Pearl River, Bayou Club in Vinton and Piney Woods in Vivian.
Used to be a place behind Peggy's Lounge in Henderson. M&M Cockpit was another one right outside of Rayne.

they are usually putting strychnine in them before a fight to help them stay amped up. if you see one that looks like it's squirting more blood than it should then it's a dead giveaway.

Has anyone on here ever been to a cockfight? It is just not something I’d have any interest in.

No interest. I do have a cousin that used to fight them years ago. I think a lot of the fights he went to were close to Sunset.

Sounds trashy to me.

Based on how many of us mentioned Sunset, it was the place to be.
