but there’s a billion different things that could happen to cause a pilot to lose control of a plane.
Posted on 3/10/19 at 11:56 am to 777Tiger
Engine failure, avionics issues (faulty displays, loss of control systems, etc..) loss of communication systems, pilot error.
The majority of air accidents are ruled pilot error.

Another 737max crashes.
On one now on my way to Chicago. Smooth sailing.

prayers sent, do you have time to go take out some of that flight insurance and make me the beneficiary? I'll pay you back

Off topic but my wife is watching Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and I read Aerospace the exact moment Steve Carell said Aerospace. What's the odds?

Why does this matter? It’s a sad story to all of us no matter the background of the dead.
Because they want to show that their airline is diverse and kill's everybody

That's highly contingent on the descent and damage.

Anybody else thinking a malfunction similar to Lion Air? Surely Boeing would have taken care of this.

Just got off of one about 30 minutes ago. Flown internationally on them for the last 7 months. About 20 flights. This Russian roulette is getting old lol.

Going to jump out on a limb here and say they need to ground this aircraft until the issue is resolved.
I’d say the problem probably rested with Ethiopian airline maintenance.

Reading some pilot forums, highlights oversimplified:
737-MAX has been around 2 years now. Very new airframe. Another one crashed in Indonesia last year like this, hard nose down landing at speed, same as this.
It has forward mounted engines which cause the plane to be slightly nose heavy.
As a compensation (this seems counter intuitive so forgive my ignorance), Boeing installed a software called MCAS, which relies on a single sensor (AOA, or angle of attack) to activate it. Basically it detects if the aircraft is going up too steeply and applies extra flaps to compensate and push the nose back down.
If the sensor malfunctions, you COULD see a situation where the pilot is trying to gain altitude and the computer pushes the nose down to fix what it thinks is a near-stall.
Every time the pilot tries to gain altitude, the plane nose dives via software.
Will take time to investigate. Boeing May ground the MAX fleet if it starts to look like the MCAS (determined to be the cause of the Indonesian crash).

Isn’t the cabin pressurized?

That’s the second large plane to crash in a couple weeks.

Ethiopian plays out of their league like LionAir. This should not be surprising. 2 MAX crashes, two airlines that I would walk before flying.
There's a video on YouTube showing an Ethiopian 788 on a delivery flight landing at Dulles. The Ethiopian CA botched the landing, CAVOK WX, and a Boeing delivery pilot yelling at him. Eye opening.

A plane crash is probably my number one irrational fear
Only because of the odds. But if involved in one, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion many, if not all aboard will die, especially if the plane is in mid-air flight and not attempting a landing.

Ethiopian Airlines is better than a lot of US carriers.
Lol, this is total BS if they are using mostly Ethiopian pilots, crew, and ground crew.
I’d like how you define ‘better’?
