I was going to say, a lot of roads in rural TX allow 65mph.

A lot of two lane farm to markets are 75 mph

I mean, her family deserves something for it, but that seems excessive.

Not to be cold but I don't think there was any pain or suffering based on the photos. There was a millisecond of loud noise and that was it.

Call it emotional distress. It is awarded to the family for their loss. All the same, really.

It seems to me 65 mph on a 2 lane rounding a blind corner before a narrow bridge is reckless and perhaps had she been going a more proper 40-45mph in the turn, she would be alive

that is absolutely fricking criminal theft disguised as a jury verdict

You think insurance is going to pay $250 million on punitive damages? Insurance won’t pay punitive damages.

Show me where I said anything about the insurance company paying punitive damages.

A liberty mutual adjuster told me the other day they have to pay punitives in Alabama. I understand this is a different state but I thought that was crazy.

I think memaw was in a hurry to get to church and paid dearly for it. Sounds to me like the lady was at fault.

Agree with this. Pass large excavators all the time on LA 3127. State troopers in front and if you don’t pull over it’s on you.

Lots of spin for the jury, I imagine.

This- I move very large pieces of equipment for a living.

Nobody in their right mind is heavy hauling with front and back escorts off route. Not with a load that specialized- anyone that would be deemed capable of pulling almost 200,000 pounds- this wasn’t their first rodeo.

They will not see anything close to that amount. Texas has a cap on punitive damages.

It’s a multiplier cap. The punitives are not even 1x of compensatory damages. Whether the compensatory damages get knocked down on appeal is another story, but those punitives as it stands are allowed in Texas.
