Early voting soars, especially in St. George area, through election’s first two days

Early turnout has been especially heavy in East Baton Rouge Parish, pollster John Couvillion of JMC Enterprises of Louisiana, tells Daily Report, especially within precincts eligible to vote on the incorporation of the city of St. George. On the first day of early voting, turnover in the parish was up 244% compared to 2015, but an eye-catching 725% inside the boundaries of the proposed city of St. George.

Seems like an interesting sign.

70% may end up being a lowball guess.

I think this can be attributed more because of the LSU-Florida game being on the same day the election is. And a 7:00 pm kickoff. Everybody wants to be tailgating all day.

The amount of voter fraud that’s being lined up in that area will be crazy.

Don’t think for one second it’s not going down.

Given the late push by the opponents, I assumed that the polling suggested that there was a lot of support for the unincorporated area to establish their own city.

Back in 2015, the "eliminated" just enough petitions for the measure to fail to get to the ballot.

Election Day is Oct. 12.

The day of the LSU-Florida game. That's why everyone is voting early.

Didn’t they also get fricky with the required number of signatures, increasing that amount while removing actual signatures as well?

This is bad news for JBE as well as 70% of those voters aren’t voting for him. Meaning he will need to get more votes in order to break 50% and win outright.

That’s why I said he was an idiot for making the St George election the same day as his election.

Maybe. More likely supporters of incorporation anxious to get their vote recorded early.

LSU always has a game on Gubernatorial Election Day.

Yeah that happened this time around. They tried to challenge them, but ended up opening up additional time for signatures to be added. It was a net gain for St. George. So now it's on a ballot.

I can’t wait to roll up on October 12th and have them tell me I’ve already voted.

I'd be more inclined to agree if it was an early game, but you have plenty of time to go vote. Not everyone is setting up a tailgate and drinking at 9:00 am

Either way, this is 100 percent St George being on the ballot. Plain and simple. Florida game is just a small reason.
