I just finished rewatching the “How the Earth Was Made” series so that’s on me, guys. My bad.

It’s the sort of thing that makes you set your wine down, close your eyes, and take a long, steadying breath. I’m not angry—just weary. I’d like the news to be delivered by people who at least know the dimensions of the world they’re reporting on. Is that too much to ask?
This is where I got tired of the we are experts on the news. You just made up the last thing you said so it's hard to now believe the rest of what you are saying.
I guess this happens as you get older and know more things so you pick up on the bullshite or out right lies.

Wake up during the night, reach out to grab your table lamp, wait for shaking to stop, roll over and go back to sleep.
More terrifying when you are caught outside and see the ground roll around you.

That is horrible. Those high-rise buildings are so compromised that even a minor aftershock will collapse them.
The more we see from there the worse it looks.

Oh shite, what better excuse to finally post this.
About two weeks ago I was at work here in Florida and everyone ran out of their offices asking if the floor was shaking.
Someone looking into it and there was a 6.1-6.4 of the coast of Cuba and we felt it. Never been a part of anything like that before so it was a neat experience.
ETA: I did not realize how bad these were when I made my post. This is terrible.

Seeing could be a 6 figure death toll. A prayer for them...

7.5 is pretty stout, prayers be with those people. Hoping this doesn't kick off more seismic activity closer to the gulf. Always that chance we could get a tsunami one day from something like this.

The Earth has shown intense seismic activity in recent hours. While the Pacific Ring of Fire recorded at least five earthquakes of moderate and strong magnitude at various points along its extensive tectonic strip, Venezuela was shaken by an unusual double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, occurring with just 39 seconds between them, leaving significant damage and triggering a wide emergency response.
Both events occurred almost simultaneously. The Pacific Ring of Fire concentrates nearly 90% of the world's seismic activity, while Venezuela's earthquake took place at the boundary between the Caribbean and South American plates, a different tectonic zone.
Authorities continue to assess the damage in Venezuela, while seismological agencies maintain constant monitoring of seismic activity in various regions of the planet.

And on Wednesday morning, a “thermal anomaly” was detected in the Auca Mahuida volcano in Argentina, Neuquén province, whose last eruption is estimated to have occurred about 800,000 years ago, they say… The earth speaks!

Google was very clever; they use the accelerometers of thousands of Android phones as a global earthquake network, all that data is sent and Google managed to find a way to detect those waves in time and send the alerts.

How clever—turning millions of phones into a network of seismometers. Those seconds of warning can save lives. Technology that truly matters.
