WDSU

n fact, since Jason Williams took office, 701 releases have gone up almost 600 percent, according to data from the city council.

And some of the crimes the people were accused of include murder, robbery and carjackings.

Last January, Jamon Edwards was arrested in New Orleans, accused of shooting and killing a man on France Street.

He was booked into jail in early February — his bond set at just under $500,000.

But by early June, less than six months later, Edwards was ordered released.

That's because District Attorney Jason Williams failed to formally charge Edwards in the time allotted under law.

701 prescriptive periods are extremely generous to prosecutors. No excuse to let those dates lapse, ever. Either indict/bill them, or nolle prosse and file a change of booking. Just leaving people to sit is bullshite.

This was absolutely intentional.

These people are doing what they set out to do. Destroy the city. There is no other reasons to release these animals out onto the streets to do harm to law abiding citizens. So glad to be getting out of this shite hole.

No doubt it’s intentional. What is the ultimate purpose though?

I genuinely don’t know. Refusing the charges and filing a change of booking is at least intentional. Letting 701 dates lapse just makes you look like a jackass.

And being the article doesn’t make this clear: getting a 701 granted simply relieves someone of their bond obligation. The DA could still bring charges later, if they so choose.

I smell some future class action lawsuits against the City.

Those people will commit future crimes, and those victims will look to these mistakes as reason why their crime was perpetuated.

AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This is so great.

This is your city, Nolabros. Take your carjackings like a champ. Don't be a victim twice.

The purpose is to lower property values so that real estate moguls can come in and buy huge swaths of land for cheap.

Then those areas can be gentrified and sold for untold profits.
