Do not have this problem in nations with national healthcare...there is not a billing department in hospitals. There is not a legal department like those found in US Hospitals. There is also no executive class in the hospital industry who is there to maximize share holder value by adding to the cost of healthcare.

This latter is another subsidy consumers of healthcare in the US provides the world. The profit motive in the US drives R&D in the health care industry. Paying customers foot the bill for this as they do all things in all businesses in the US. When the R&D is complete the result is made available in nations with national health care where price caps exist. No such caps exist in the US so you and I make up the difference by paying the actual market price plus the difference from around the world.

And Louisiana wants them on Medicaid for the federal $$$

The Feds only pay a portion of medicaid expenses. The State is on the hook for the rest. That is why it is so crazy that some politicians push so hard for expansion. It doesn't make fiscal sense.

The bottom line for me is before Obama was president, healthcare insurance was affordable. He saw 30 million people uninsured and totally destroyed our healthcare system for the sake of the 10 out of 30 million he got insured. And now it’s outrageously expensive, insurance is 6 times the cost and healthcare itself is very high. All for the sake of 10 million people he destroyed everyone’s healthcare.

The problem is they get it free while paying American paying for their own insurance plus the Medicaid, get screwed. There should be a 6 month limit in this.

Thanks, LBJ

The U.S. would have been much better off if this program would have only lasted a short time. Not sure it was met to be a program where people would become dependant on it to basically support them. It has basically destroyed the Family unit in many communities , produced millions of babies with no father figure ,produced people who now have no desire to work, destroyed communities etc....Had this welfare system never been put in place i would say this figure would be 2 in 10 so blaming LBJ is the correct answer along with the democrats that continue to support it.

Now do adults. My guess would be 45-55%.

LA State Health Officer Dr. Joesph Kanter was on Newel Norman’s WWL radio program this morning and stated 40% of Louisiana’s population (adults + children) is on Medicaid. (They were discussing gov-elect Jeff Landry’s statement that he had no plan to restrict Medicaid expansion in the state).

frick you. The problem is American healthcare system. A family of four can easily pay over 20 thousand dollars. I guess you rather kids die than get adequate health care even if it’s from the gov This board amazes me in its stupidity. If you think our healthcare system is great, just wait till one of you or one of your family members is dying from a curable disease or cancer and you have a choice of paying millions even with insurance or watching them die. For those who keep calling me poor, you know knowing of me and my career. I can’t believe how heartless you all are. I think you all enjoy watching people suffer and struggle .

That’s not a problem with the healthcare system, it’s a problem with the insurance system.

Health insurance companies are out to serve themselves only. They don’t have any regard for patient care or the expertise of providers. They only care about their bottom line.

What people don’t realize is that the paying healthcare customers (those with private insurance) in the US subsidize not only the Medicaid and non-paying uninsured/illegals in the US, but also other countries’ national healthcare plans. The people who are getting screwed the hardest are the ones most against universal healthcare because they are afraid of having it worse than they already do, because they already have it pretty damn bad.

Universal healthcare would be better for us, but also so would scrapping the entire insurance industry and going totally transparent fee-for-service (getting the government totally out of healthcare.) Neither of those will happen in the US because of the partnership between the government and the health insurance corporations.

when my dad was alive he would apply for disability every year bc he was a paraplegic - but he was denied

Did he ever hire an attorney for the appeals process? SSD is very formulaic if he was a paraplegic getting SSD (assuming he had the work credits SSI if not) would be like falling off a log for even the least competent disability attorney. The problem is with the initial application many people just don't know what words to use.
