Until there is a vaccine and medication that can treat the virus – prospects that are months or longer away – Edwards said people will likely not see “life as you knew it before COVID-19.
The state will rely heavily on the federal government, and will need far more testing, along with contact tracing and isolation of patients who later test positive, he said.”
Makes me wonder exactly what he’s thinking about how long he plans to extend his stay at home order.

We’ve gotten it for 2 weeks. The $600 is federal/extra starts according to JBE Monday.

Fed is supposed to give the money to make the $600 retroactive to the start of this mess. Odds LA government keeps that money and doesn’t forward it to recipients?

The governor did have good news on unemployment: The state last night received the funding for the $600 increase for unemployment, and the payments will start on Monday. This includes the 1099 and self-employed people; their payments will start on Monday.

How many months do you think unemployment benefits last?

The state will pay you up to $247 based on what you were making. The CARES adds a flat rate of $600 on that so yes some people will earn more to stay home than t go back to work and the CARES lifted the requirement to look for jobs. CARES expires in July IIRC

So do you have to apply for the $600?

You do not have to apply, if you are on unemployment you will get it added on top of what you get weekly.

Also it is retroactive going back to 3/28 for all states some even further back than that. So if you have been on unemployment for a few weeks you have some back pay of 600$ checks from the cares act.

Arkansas they started this week but they messed it up and almost everyone got dinged $150 for child support out of the $600. It was hilarious, I'm sitting there asking my wife where's my child support woman. The look I got from across the couch was not pleasant.

She's begging to go back to work. Even with Arkansas giving $451 and CARE giving $600 every week we're still well in the hole from her normal pay, but hey at least it's something.

I believe you only have to file for unemployment and if you’re approved it will be automatically included.

Nope. Not the case.
They shouldn't but they will pay you more. The Federal money is $600/week regardless. So $600 on top of state benefits.

Lindsey Graham railed against this part of the bill.

Of course can't now.
But in 4 weeks it's going to be a rough time on employers.

Imagine being a landscape company. Say paying good at $15/hr.

It's gonna be tough competing with $847/week to sit home for 10 more weeks.

Lots of people literally can't see more than a week or two in the future. They just don't care to.

That's tough for me to compete with. The government doesn't like competition.

All of this right here. This $600 per week just wasn’t thought out very well.

Only the people who have no open job to go back to could even pull this off. If you worked at let say a restaurant and you got laid off but then the Restaurant gets business again or the PPP loan and tells you you can come back/pays you a salary with PPP they will absolutely tell that to the unemployment and tell them you have your job back.

If at this point the employee still doesnt come back to work they are no longer eligible for unemployment.

How long are they planning to pay the extra amount? I thought it was going to be phased out once companies start reopening.

4 months, and most states have done away with the must be actively looking for work requirements. But that will only be able to be abused by those who worked at a business that shuttered completely.
