Not everyone who has an American birth certificate is an American citizen. I know a former professor who was born here, but has moved to Bulgaria and is no longer a citizen.
Of course, the reverse is true as well. Your birth certificate can show that you were born in another country, but still you are an American citizen.
As to passports, less than 50% of Americans have one.
Over 9% of voting-age citizens, or 21.3 million people, cannot readily access documentary proof of citizenship. About 3.8 million voting-age American citizens do not have a birth certificate, passport, naturalization certificate, or a certificate of citizenship. Link
I'm absolutely not trying to say that non-citizens should vote in out elections. Further, I think IDs should be required to vote (they are in Louisiana).
I'm just saying that requiring proof of citizenship is not as easy as it may appear, and probably would result in prohibiting some citizens from voting.

Security is paramount over convenience. Americans have been sold the idea that voting is supposed to be as easy as possible. This just presents more opportunities for fraud. The security and accuracy of our elections is most important.
If a citizen wants to be able to vote, they should just request a copy of their birth certificate or whatever document is required for them. No citizen is prohibited from voting, just get what you need if it is important to you. Personal responsibility.
IDs in Louisiana are required. A drivers license does not indicate if a person is a citizen or not. All a person has to do is check a box that they are a citizen when they register to vote. They are totally on the honor system. Also, the types of IDs (like a Costco card) that are accepted is ludicrous.

Youve been lied to. Registering to vote in Louisiana asks for a social security number. If you don't provide one you go into a seperate pool that requires special approval. If you are an illegal and do this you might as well just call ICE and tell em to come pick you up.
The fact there are people like you that think because they allow you to submit an application without filling in/having a social security number means that it's automatically accepted the same as one with a social security number is a testimony to our education system
The fact is there is a small percentage of US citizens that never get a social security number so there has to be a way for people to fill out an application without one.

No, it does not. And all the rest of that statement is completely untrue. SOS Nancy Landry recently announced that 403 non citizens had been identified on the state's voter rolls when she compared it to a federal database. Why haven't all of those been arrested? She has said many times that it is an honor system.

I have been heavily involved in election integrity issues in LA since 2018. I am also very well educated. You can laugh all day, but YOU have been lied to. Why don't you just call Nancy's office and ask? That honor system is used in many states.

Because them poor colored folk....errr...."people of color" are just too stupid to be able to get an ID. Ask any white progressive liberal and they'll tell you.

Ummm there was quit literally a massive case that dominated multiple news cycles that said the opposite. Someone giving up citizenship is a different thing.

The process of obtaining any of those documents is extremely easy, and if you have difficulty, which can exist, then there are attorneys who can help get it cleared up for you.
If you can't take the steps to procure those documents, then maybe you shouldn't be deciding on elected officials.

Of course, the Lt Gov candidate in Alabama got caught using a questionable ID to vote. And not to be outdone by Tommy Tuberville, he also hasn’t lived in Alabama for the last seven years as required by law.

Probably will receive a similar sentence as the lady from Crowley who was known to support the Acadia Parish Courthouse crowd in their "get out the vote" efforts...
She pled guilty to voter fraud for filling out ballots for the elderly the opposite of how those folks wanted to vote. She was given a completely suspended sentence. Spent zero time in jail. John Bel Edwards was Governor and Jeff Landry was Attorney General.
She almost immediately went work for now convicted felon Jack Montoucet at the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries after her plea deal.

Until we start sentencing these people to actual jail time, 15+ years where they actually sit in a prison cell, then I honestly don't want to hear politicians from either side whining about voter fraud.

That's an online registration and you only have to give the last 4 digits if you do not have a drivers license or Special ID. If you have a LA license, you do not have to provide the SSN. You would just put in your number and the audit code.
Because of the Motor Voter law, people get a registration form when they get a license and all they have to do is check a box that they are a citizen. It does not ask for a SSN.
So, no, you do not have to provide a SSN to register to vote in LA.
