You must have missed the thread about the 20-30 brpd cops fraudulently making 100-200k and taking in over 2000 hours of overtime. The math of their overtime and regular working hours equated to an impossible amount.

How does your pension work? MPERS allows you 50% of the avg of your top 4 years in MS. So assuming you avged $50k, you'd receive only $25k a year. How does one live on that at 51?
Can't but the Feds offer a 401k that employees use to save for retirement. I can go about 6 months and I'll find work. I've had several offers. Just need a de tox period. Get back to normal life. Some of the responses to my post should give a good example of what I mean.

The sad thing is I really did used to believe the whole, "90% of cops are good/upstanding/intelligent citizens and the other ten give the 90 a bad name". I truly do believe it is closer to 40/60 if not legitimately potentially closer to 20/80. I mean this wholeheartedly, we need to have a full scale purge of our current law enforcement agencies from federal to state to county level. And no I don't mean a mass killing, I mean a mass kick in the nuts of the bullshite blue line brotherhood meathead mentality. Something has to change

Fed LEO falls under FERS. You get 33 percent off high 3, a Social Security annuity that other federal employees don't get (bridges you from retirement to age 62), and TSP (essentially a 401k with agency matching benefits).

So .. You're not really retiring .. You're quitting your job and will look for another one in March because you still technically can't afford to retire? That doesn't sound like retirement to me ..

Saw it, participated in it. Saw a lot of uninformed posters in there claiming it was impossible.
When the math was explained those posters stuck their head in the sand and kept saying it was impossible.
Some fields allow for extreme overtime, some don't. If you have never been in one off those fields it is understandable that it is a foreign concept.

It might be just 10% that are "dirty", but it is probably damn near 99% that are complacent to the horseshite the POS pigs pull.

Wow....Louisiana is 3.3% per year of service of the avg of your top 3 years. So basically 100% at the 30 year mark.

You must have missed the part about being a Federal LEO. GS-12 or 13 with LEAP easily puts them in 6 figures. Congrats on retirement !

It's not beneficial to stay. Financially. Yes retiring from one career and starting another. 51 is too young to Not Work. I could coast the rest of my life. I'm good in that regard but who wants to do that. I have had enough of dealing with criminals and bureaucracy. I have had a good career and I can say I kept my integrity and professionalism during my career. In every profession there are good people and bad people. Law enforcement is no different. But what goes around comes around and the bad seems to get caught sooner or later.
