She must not require a high level of care. For seriously ill people, it’s more like $12,000,000 a month.
Solid typo

Why don’t you ship off the old hag to the Philippines or Thailand to stay at a resort that gives you a personal assistant on call 24 hours a day, Chef prepared meals, a Nutritionist, twice monthly doctor visits to her villa, & daily planned activities for $2500/month?

$5k a month for a nice nursing home is fairly normal. The bill for my wife's GF is $4.8k and change.
And that’s because poor people & elderly POS scam artists going to hell, Give away all their assets so that Medicaid foots the bill for their long term care.
And since government is paying for it those prices go up and up and up…

My dad and her bought long term health care insurance years ago which is now subsidizing this.

That’s on the low end of the price range for a retirement/nursing home. You have a pretty decent deal going.

I assume there was some other reason to not just add $50 to everyone's "rent". Maybe some law against it.
There is a lease for the “rent” portion of the facility that is likely more difficult to change than the “services” portion. It also is a better pr move for the facility to specify that this is to help them attract and keep staff than simply a generic “rent increase”.

Minimum wagw. You don't want your parents in an old folks home unless it is high end. I know people that worked at them. Burger king is better staffed. You get what you pay for.

1) that’s the cost for a private room for my grandmother in south Louisiana
2) the administrator where I consult got a 5 digit bonus quarterly during covid — this news got told to him via email that was accidentally sent to ALL staff and not just admins. OOPS. AND NO, no one else got much of a bonus.

This is smart. My parents put everything in my name except their house. In Louisiana a person can’t donate their house if they live in it. When it’s time for 1 or both of my parents to go into a nursing homes the government will foot the bill and they won’t be able to touch my inheritance but it has to be out of their name for 3-5 years.
If they go into a nicer facility I’ll pay the difference between Medicaid and cost.

We have looked into it more than once & 24/7 home health is more expensive than a nursing home
At least in a nursing home someone will be there even if short staffed, if no one shows from home health you are screwed

You couldn't get a nurse to work 24/7/365 for anywhere close to 60k.
Plus, her food ( decent meals, too) is paid for, her power bill is paid for, her Wi-Fi is paid for...
