$50 "Staffing surcharge": New monthly add on to my mother's retirement home bill

Got a letter today from my mother's retirement home in North Carolina stating they are adding on a $50/ month charge to partially cover the costs of a $2/ hr increase in pay for the staff.
The claim is that they can't hire and retain enough people at the current pay levels. I don't know what those wages are.
I assume there was some other reason to not just add $50 to everyone's "rent". Maybe some law against it.
Anyone else see this type "surcharge"?
And for statistical purposes, her monthly costs for room and board and "care" is over $5000 /month.
And thanks, Biden. I should make my liberal sister pay the extra $50.

Maybe they’ll remove the surcharge once the free gov’t money dries up, and enough people want their old jobs back or they can go back to normal staffing and wages.

Hell for 5k a month he could take out a loan and build a super nice apartment for her.

She's wheelchair bound and needs nearly round the clock care.

In NC? Odd...
Surely there are some white people in NC who can alleviate this long term care facility CNA "shortage".

I saw an “abstract fee” in my closing costs but they wouldn’t take an abstract check.

Yes, you should. Elections have consequences.

$5k a month for a nice nursing home is fairly normal. The bill for my wife's GF is $4.8k and change.

You ever personally cared for a ill person? It’s not a good job. I did it for a family member at home for a very long time.
I wouldn't do it again for a billion dollars an hour.

She must not require a high level of care. For seriously ill people, it’s more like $12,000,000 a month.

My PCP charges 20.00 extra to cover Covid supplies
Of course insurance doesn’t cover it
We would gladly pay 50.00 a month to my Grandpas nursing home if it would help hire people
A man can only be given instant mashed potatoes so many times a week
They make damn near minimum wage & get 32 hours or whatever it is to not qualify for vacation or sick time around here

What’s really gonna piss you off is the guberment is already kicking them more money for this, and they found a way to get more money out of you with this bs excuse.

Your wife’s girlfriend is in the nursing home?

This has to be a typo.
