If my math is right, that little birdie averaged 32 mph that entire 11-day trip over the Pacific Ocean.

Great story, but that seems improbable.

It seems like he probably caught a nap on a passing ship or two, drank rainwater and snacked on sailor's leftovers, tossed to him.

Reminds me of the poem by D.H. Lawrence that is quoted at the end of G..I. Jane:

I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Animals are amazing creatures and they will endure whatever they have to in order to survive.

Was it a male bird or a female bird? And did it stop to ask for directions over the islands it crossed..

The animal kingdom is full of creatures that have a unique sense of direction and survival instincts to fly across the equator knowing winter is coming in this region and to fly North or South before it gets too cold or weather patterns change making the trip harder to accomplish.

This is how this year’s flu strains spread around the world.

Except for those shivering dogs on those commercials.
