Cordray’s handles just over 100 alligators a year at an operation that turns wild game into sausage or jerky. It also offers taxidermy services and will transform your alligator into anything from a full-body wall mount to a “leg” lamp.
“We normally don’t go into the stomach,” Cordray said. “That’s because we once went into the stomach of a big one years ago, and there was a very rotten 3-foot gar inside. It smelled so bad that every one had to leave.”
South Carolina’s alligators typically grow to 13 feet and live more than 60 years, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The biggest American alligator on record was 19 feet, 3 inches, caught in Louisiana, according to the State Library and Archives of Florida.
Cordray’s is run by Claudia and Michael Cordray, and their son, Kenneth, handles the taxidermy. The biggest South Carolina gator ever brought into the shop was 13 feet, 9 inches. “The heaviest was over 800 pounds and was missing part of his tail, so we are not sure how long he really was,” Claudia Cordray said.
The state’s alligator hunting season ended in October, but the removal of the large gator was permitted because it was on private land, Cordray said.

Nothing brightens a room like taxidermy.

How did all that debris say in the alligators digestive system? Amazing.
Almost as amazing as a guy having the same phone number for 24 years.

How big would a 12' gator have been 24 years ago? Big enough to kill deer hounds?
Alligators are dinosaurs so 24 years is basically zero time in their 65 million year life.

I believe you can find them up to Clarks Hill and Lake Murray in SC. Possibly Lake Greenwood too but past those the water gets too cold to support them.
No gators live in Lake Greenwood. Both Lake Murray and Clarks Hill have had gators sightings before, but that’s cause people dropped them off, it’s not their natural habitat.
Crazy story- some dude was noodling in Lake Moultrie about a decade ago and had his arm bitten off by a 13 footer LINK

That’s why there are so many big ones in Southwest Arkansas.
There are some absolute monsters in the mill wood backwaters in that part of arkansas and probably a few other areas as well. Like you said not much pressure.

We are in a hunting/fishing club just off HW 71 just south of the Little River bridge. It’s an old gravel operation and there are about 500 or 600 acres of old pits out there. There are some monsters out there...monsters.

Lol wut? So this particular alligator being 24 years old doesn’t mean anything because his species is old? You make it sound as if he doesn’t age.

I call BS. Gators are known to have stomach acid that can dissolve a hook. How then is it possible for these objects to remain intact?

I guess I won't be going to arkànsas

My daughter shot a 13ft gator that someone bought and had full body mount. Taxidermy cost was $7500

They love dogs. They actually let the deer swim by and wait for the dogs

You have gators that far north?
I've seen an alligator in Congaree NP in the Columbia area.

Along the coast for sure.
Not sure where in SC this one was
Ravenel. Small town near Charleston. We have alligators all over the state of SC, tho. I live about 10 minutes from Augusta, Georgia on the good side of the SC/GA border and we have them here. Low lying swampy areas around the rivers around here have lots of them.
