BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge police officer who accidentally killed a pedestrian with his unmarked patrol car back in June received only a light reprimand after an internal investigation determined he was driving too fast at the time of the crash.

On Thursday, September 28, BRPD spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely confirmed the internal investigation concluded about two weeks ago and resulted in a speeding ticket and five-day suspension for Officer Frederick Thornton.

Police did not make their decision public until WAFB inquired about the status of the case Thursday.

Thornton’s suspension has already been served.

I'm sure we'd all get the same treatment.

Without an investigation, I can tell you...

Is called vehicular homicide.

pretty sure they are already mid anuerism over Bossier Parish "forcing" players to stand for the National Anthem. All this oppression may be more than they can handle in one afternoon

Article says he was passing an ambulance when it happened, did the police ever say where he was heading in such a hurry?

ETA just read the old article, says he wasn't responding to a call.

Citizen wouldn't have gotten ticket. Pedestrian is still at fault, crossing in middle of street not in crosswalk. Guessing the only reason cop got ticket was because vehicle did have dash cam and GPS w speed.

Damned double standard.

And the police wonder why trust is waning?

If I had to guess, the area has sidewalks as seen in the picture and the pedestrian was crossing the street illegally, therefore justifying the ruling (wether you agree or disagree with it)

No it's not. Vehicular homicide is if the driver is impaired.

Not when the victim was jaywalking & illegally crossing the street, which appears to be the case.

This is my guess. Kind of similar happened recently in dallas. No charges filed against drivers.

I know this dude and feel badly for him and his family.hes a good guy. If a person stepped out in front of your car out of no where it would be hard to assign blame on the living party.
