Everyone is "allowed to do that"
In almost every class I've been in, someone didn't stand for the pledge. E.g. a Jehovah's Witness (they pledge loyalty to the Kingdom of God and to no government), etc.

Teachers and schools for that matter have zero power over students today. In my day the nuns would've beat my arse, sent a note home with me, then my dad would've beat my arse again ......

The kid's parents are using them in hopes to get a reaction. Unfortunately, damaging the mental health of a child doesn't constitute child abuse so the only thing that can and should be done is for the parents to be called out publicly for being pieces of shite.

I believe there was a teacher according to the article, my eldest spent one semester at an elementary school, after graduating from LSU. From her experience, she was handcuffed from the administration on doing anything to the children. Fwiw...

This is what these guys don't realize. They are role models and kids will blindly copy them even though they don't know why they are, and that's not good.

There is no law that requires anyone to stand during the national anthem. And I hope there never will be or we will cease to be the USA.
