There is likely some of that. I’m a hydrocarbons guy. I don’t think global warming is as large a problem as the warmers say it is, plus I made my living in oil and gas. However, I drive an EV. And I wouldn’t go back to ICE if you paid me $100,000. But the farthest I ever drive is to Baton Rouge and back, and I have a 40 amp charger in my garage.
I don’t have to stop at gas stations and I don’t have to service the car except wiper fluids and tire pressure. Plus it goes 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. It is truly a wonderful car. The only shortcoming (not counting range, because that means nothing to me) is that if it’s not charged, and a 150 mile round trip is sprung on me, I can’t use it.
My wife has a Denali, so if I ever have to go far I’ll use that, but I sincerely hope I’ll never drive farther than to Baton Rouge because I hate driving.

Did you have to pay to get your home electrical service up-sized?
I bought a SwitchVolt that uses the dryer outlet. $340 from Amazon. Just plug the SwitchVolt into the wall and the dryer and EV into the SwitchVolt. Charge between 9PM and 5AM at the reduced Alabama Power rate.
No way I'd pay to run from my panel to my garage. That would be in the thousands. My dryer is on the other side of the garage wall so it was easy to setup.

Probably too much info to share, but my uncle is an Air Force vet who has Alzheimers and is in a nursing home. He's always loved to go fast. Took him yesterday for a ride and opened it up in Insane mode. 0-60 in under 3. So much fun.
Best time we've had in a long time.

No I added a 50 amp breaker myself

This is probably the dumbest thing that will be posted on td today. Goddamn lmao

You found a way that works. Most faster chargers require 200 amp service into the house...before the breakers. I heard that can be pretty expensive.

My panel is full and I've already run one sub panel. And the panel is as far away from the garage as possible. Just not worth it.

Brother, no matter what it costs, that car is worth it....

I love our car. Home charging is the bees knees. The only maintenance I do is changing windshield wipers and air filters. It’s exceeded our expectations.
If you have the right mission an EV, or chargeable hybrid, is the best answer. EVs are just not where they need to be to take over the domestic car market. Right now, they are niche, but inside of that niche they are sweet.

Bro, you started a post about what other people do, then you accuse someone else of virtue signaling on page one. A little self-awareness goes a long way.

There are places for them, but the govt tried to force them on the public, and the market just isnt there.
I wouldnt mind having one someday.

Superchargers are expensive. Excessive tire wear is a real thing. Tesla parts are super-high, and be prepared to wait.
Superchargers are still cheaper than gas and you only need to use them on road trips.
I have not found tire wear to be any worse.
Which parts are going to break via normal wear and tear that need to be replaced other than brakes?

"Superchargers are used on road trips, or when caught away from home and needing a charge."
"Tire wear was @ 22K, but could be pushed to 30K". I'm used to sports cars, and that would be pretty good. Not so much for a regular car or truck though.
Parts that were mentioned to me were door seals (2K per set, gullwing, 4 month wait) and front end parts not under warranty.
Not a scientific survey, just what I was told...

I actually think it would be cool to have an EV one day. I’m just not going to be one of the first adopters while they figure out how the hell to make them as efficient as ICE vehicles.

I have a Ram 1500 that has been a fantastic truck. No problems at all with it.

I'm a big fan of classic cars but this is just ridiculous.
Do you know there used to be engine rebuilders all over the country? That even dealerships would commonly rebuild engines and transmissions?
Doesn't happen anymore because the engines don't wear out in 70-80k miles.
The cheapest car built today will outlast anything from that era.
*Mostly due to fuel injection and much tighter manufacturing tolerances for all parts of the car.
