Knew a woman that reportedly drank a 2 liter a day. She wasn't hugely fat, but she died in her mid 50's.

Not sure how many of those glass bottle cokes back then would equal a 2 liter. But, I'm pretty sure she went over that.

My aunt drank coke all day every day. When they announced the "new" coke, she went from store to store buying as much of the original as she could find. She had a closet full of those old wooden cases filled with bottles of coke.

Now that’s investing in a stock market.

You couldn't find coke classic when it came out because people would snap it up.

Ever since they switched from cane sugar over to high fructose corn syrup to satisfy the lobbying demands in Washington Coke has never been the same. In fact is so pathetic that the actual real authentic Coke is called Mexican coke.

I was 12 when this happened and still remember the taste. It was like a bad Pepsi. Ii remember correctly, Coke sales were beinging cut into by Pepsi, so Coke decided to try to make Coke taste more like Pepsi.

But on the flip side when Coke reintroduced as Coke Classic, it was a huge seller.

Yeah, it tasted like flat Pepsi.

And it was about money.
Corn syrup is cheaper than cane sugar so let’s take away the original made with cane sugar then bring it back with corn syrup after public outcry. Silly consumers will never catch the switch… until Home Depot starts selling Mexican coke.

What a complete shitshow.

Everyone involved with the decision should have been fired

It was an intentional shitshow to hide the switch from real cane sugar to HFCS

Theg knew if they switched then people would notice

So they made new Coke which sucked then a few months later release old coke with HFCS instead of sugar and people wont know the difference because its so much better than new Coke

I've tried both bottled and they taste the same to me. You can score cool points for asking for a Mexican coke though.

Ive been reflecting on my father getting obsessed with one thing, loving the heck out of it, and doing it over and over again. He did it with Playboy and he did it with Pepsi. He had about 14 pepsis a day when he started the company and then tapered off to a more reasonable amount. Still, i will always remember walking into his office and there being a pepsi right beside him. I just feel so frickin blessed to have that same mind, to enjoy mastering one thing. New Coke only replaced old Coke becuase the patent was getting ready to expire. Introduce new Coke, wait a while, phase it out, come back with the old as Coca Cola Classic… voila…another 100 years on the patent ingredients.

If this report from CBS is correct, it was. They used our friend HFCS as the sweetener instead of their diet sweetener.

The coke formula was never patented. It’s protected as a trade secret.
