Or work so many hours of extra duty jobs that u are not your very best in extreme tension situation jobs that would blow most people’s mind? They are trained so infallible and the car thieves deserve apologies?

Since its new orleans, why do we assume these cameras actually worked in the first place?

Vehicle pursuit policy is in place due to the consent decree and the criminals are exploiting it

I also don't like how the superintendent apologized to the families of the criminals. If they don't run, the crash doesn't happen, either. They are just as much at fault, and really more so, for the accident, than the chasing officers were.
If they don't steal the car they don't have to run. Our society has waged war on common sense and personal responsibility for too long.

Don’t steal a car and the police won’t chase you. Don’t run when the police try to pull you over and the police won’t chase you. Nope. It all happened because the police chased them.

The three people died because the two criminals stole a car and ran from police, negligently crashing it into the salon. Where is the personal responsibility and accountability for the two criminals?
The comments from the Chief and Mayor are beyond embarrassing. This is the state of the City.

Vehicle pursuits are prohibited unless the suspect has been involved in a violent crime and a suspect’s escape poses a danger
Why did the cops believe they stole the car?
Maybe they appeared too young to own a car.

The police chief is a total embarrassment. Not sure he could read a stop sign.

Well 2 soon to be career criminals are off the streets for good so that’s a win I guess.

Supposedly at roll call that day there was a BOLO for that car / license plate. Officers found it, pulled them over, the perps took off, and here we go.

One thing the Superintendent said was that the officers would NOT be criminally charged, which means that they believe the officers are not "responsible/accountable" for the deaths.
It's also clear a small mountain of internal polices, serious ones, were broken on multiple occasions. That is unacceptable and the superintendent was right to fire these officers for those actions.

This is a tough call. I get the reasons behind the rules though. But it’s tough to “blame” the officers for the deaths.
The reason for the rule is the consent decree that was written by Obama's DOJ. Everyone now knows the NOPD can't pursue a fleeing car, without prior authorization.
Read what happened below-
Same incident, same location (New Orleans) the only difference is which police department you work for.
quote:
Eric Harris, 22, had an encounter with Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Oakwood mall in Gretna, and deputies Henry Dejun and Kenneth Bonura began pursuing him “after learning he was armed with a gun,” according to NOPD reports on the case. Harris drove across the Crescent City Connection into Central City and stopped in the 2200 block of Philip Street, near Simon Bolivar Avenue, where the two deputies shot and killed him after his car allegedly began moving toward them, police have said.
quote:
Controversy over the shooting flared this week, after NOPD Deputy Chief Arlinda Westbrook told Harris’ family members during a public meeting that any NOPD officers who had fired under similar circumstances would have been arrested “on the spot,” according to a report on nola.com. The New Orleans Police Department’s consent decree prohibits officers from shooting at a suspect in a moving vehicle unless that suspect is using another kind of deadly weapon, but the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office does not have a similar policy.

No.
I am very much against police car chases for property crimes, especially car thefts.
The car more than likely has theft insurance and the majority of cops think they drive better than they actually do, and criminals surely suck at it...

Semi-serious question - Since the consent-decree was pushed through by the Obama DOJ, could the Trump DOJ either amend or dismiss it completely if they chose to become involved?

The DOJ can opt out, like they did in Baltimore, but a federal judge oversees the agreement (decree).
