Need to get 4 new tires on my daily commuter car. The Goodyear tires I have only lasted 20,000 miles.

Starting to look around, and the decent Firestone tires are getting $1,000 quotes for 4 new tires, alignment, etc which seems ridiculous for little 235/45/18 tires.

I can get some of the shittier brands (Yokohama) for $350 otd, but I'm afraid I'll only get 8 months out of them.

Been a while since I bought 4 new tires at one time. Is it worth it to spend that much more? Is the 70,000 limited warranty good for anything on tires? Or is it better to go cheap and replace more often?

If you know anyone who can put them on, go here:

Tire Rack

Those are usually the best prices you are going to get.

I had a buddy who worked at a Goodyear garage. He'd let you bring in tires and they'd just charge you the labor.

20K miles on a set of Goodyears? Sounds like you don't take care of them at all.

Yoko's are good tires. $350 OTD installed, balanced and aligned? No way.

Goodyear's suck arse. I've had 2-3 sets over the past 10 years. Never gotten more than 25-28k out of any of them with regular rotations

Best tire on the market right now is Hankook, in that size their best tire is the Ventus H452. My dad is a tire dealer, has been for 40 years, I've been slinging tires since I was 12 years old, and still hang around his shop from time to time. I just looked, his cost is $129 each on this tire. So retail would be $189 each and we'd do a free front wheel alignment with purchase of 4, just to give you an idea of what prices should be.

235/45/18 tires are low profile probably soft rubber. Generally these tires won't last as long as more conventional tires regardless of make. Buy Michelin, keep them inflated and rotated often. Good luck.

Damn! I haven't had Goodyears for about 15 years, but I remember getting at least 40 on my truck back then, and that was at a time that they were having problems with them. 20K isn't even 2 years of light driving. For that kind of performance, I'd just buy a set of whatever is cheapest at a place like Walmart or something.

Still can't understand the 4 for $350 Yokos though.

Get some Cooper tires. They're good for the price.

Or grab some Milestars for cheap and just replace more often
