If you're concerned about longevity, look at the manufacturer's treadwear rating (UQTG rating). It's not a perfect indicator, but a general rating of the hardness of the compound and will roughly translate to the life of the tire. Pressing fingernails in, or feeling the tire is not the way to determine this. A higher treadwear rating will typically translate to slightly lower performance due to a much harder compound. Most performance tires will have a soft compound and a low treadwear rating.

For example:
Michelin Pilot Super Sports: 300AA
Hankook Ventus V12: 320 AA
Michelin Primacy MX4: 500A

As mentioned, Hankooks and Yokohama are very reputable brands. You just have to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

Buy Michelin, keep them inflated and rotated often

Mis5 places are turning down tire rotations now by telling customers to keep better tires on the rear. It is an effort by oil change places to sell more tires.

Goodyears were giving me about 30000 miles. BFGs have given me 50000 and still going strong.

Get some Cooper tires.

Best tires on the market. I only put Cooper AT3s on my trucks and routinely get 60-70K out of a set

Best tire on the market right now is Hankook
Fun fact: "Hankook" means "Korean tires" in Korean.
