We’ve radically grown technology and generally doubled our workforce to boot… at some point it makes sense to scale down hours.

So less pay and no benefits since its technically not full time?

I believe it’ll make 32 HR the standard for a full time job.

And I’m sure these idiots will expect to make the same amount as if they had worked 40.

There's no reason for the standard to be 40 hours.

Flip side is that working fewer hours means you get less pay.

Same people bitching about the amount of work they have are likely also the same ones living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to lose hours.

Or if California headquartered companies leave California employees at the same pay for now fewer hours, I'd want a 20% raise for my 40 hour week

That will drive increasing flexibility in companies if they want to stay competitive for employees.

Nope. That would cause me to let go of 20% of my current employees.

Lol. If you can cut 20% of your staff without greatly impacting productivity then you shouldn’t have them in the first place.

It would probably just speed up the exodus of middle class people from California.

The prog utopia is a few ultra wealthy and a bunch of poors. That's what they want.

I don’t see a problem with it.

4 day work weeks are legit

So let me guess. Companies will be expected to pay them 40 hours worth of pay for 32 hours worth of work?

I'm guessing they think that's how it is supposed to work, but it isn't.
Probably be a good econ lesson for them in the future.

EXACTLY. If companies could weed out all the inefficiency and wasted time, 32 hours a week would be plenty to accomplish what is currently getting done in 40. Keep pay the same and everybody would be happy.

Companies are free to do that. What does government have to do with this?

They'll just cut hourly workers back to 32 so they don't have to pay time and a half and they'll hire more part time workers to fill in the gap if necessary. I suspect most salaried workers won't be impacted anyway.

Bingo. Everyone makes less money.

Most of these low level employees could easily work part time right now if they chose. They don't because they want the hours. Now, the hours probably aren't going to be there for those who want them.

No, they just think that with enough laws they can legislate everyone to wealthy status

You can run at a skeleton crew for a while to save money but eventually you can’t continue.

If someone is cutting that much, they are hoping to cut enough out that everyone else would survive rather than shutting down immediately.

Businesses will adjust and this won't end up being good for the employees unless they are willing to make 80% of their current salary for an additional day off.

The rank and file? Sure. Those that create the policy know better though. They're the Marxist vanguard, who can live a step better than the masses.

Yes. Basically everyone is a part time worker.

Again, those hurt will be those who prefer the hours and pay.
