This is the issue. There is clear favoritism being played for companies owned and operated by those with power in the Democratic party by a democratic regime.

Before it starts blah blah blah Cheney blah blah Bush blah blah Koch brothers yadda yadda. It's both parties which have a distinct favoritism given to American royalty, which makes Trump getting the GOP nod glorious. I hope he wins the General not because I agree with him, but because it would mean four years of a non partisan president, which is desperately needed in this country.

don't see how wind farms could have any control over the birds that are killed so although it is eagles, I would have to say this seems like a non-issue and I am cool with it.

They built them in the migratory path of an endangered species. Contrast that with getting drilling permits in the migratory path of a whale, or letting cows graze where desert tortoises mate.

Thanks, that actually provides some informative context. I did not read the article so I didn't know that. Kinda shitty if that is the case.

The keep it in the ground movement is currently working hard to get as many species as possible listed as endangered to stop O&G development. No other business can gets a permit to disturb the natural habitat of an endangered species but this administration will consider making exceptions for their agenda. Their agenda is to prop up unreliable alternative energy and kill all fosil fuel business.

I did not read the article but could forsee this incoming. These wind farms are most often approved at the local level not the federal level. This is a problem because the proper planning in regards to wildlife is not taken. A few million in fines here and there and farms being turned down lose some big dem backers lots of money. Presto chango let's ammend the laws. Change Wind Turbine to oil Derrick and the fines would go up. Absolute hypocrisy from the government. Either enforce the laws across the power grids or don't.

If I kill an eagle it's a federal offense. If the green energy industry which is Obama's pet kills 5000+ eagles a year, so be it.

Deal with it.

Eagles are no longer threatened or endangered. Why are they protected?

This has been a problem since the 1970's. I grew up just west of Altamont Pass Wind Farm. Killing the birds of prey allowed the rodent population to grow. Guess what predator population grew in response? Snakes, in particular Rattlesnakes.

Eh, wind turbines are pretty low on the list for amount of avian mortality.

Because their awesome! I want one. It can be my special killing pet.
Now do you want that?
ETA. It's hypocrisy. Windmills can kill all the birds they want but you can't drill for oil on "this" land because of the "three sprocket horned toad lizard tortoise rat thing."

I lived in the Bay Area about 15 years ago, so my memory may be faulty. But I seem to remember the Altamont Pass Wind Farms shutting down at certain times of the year during peak raptor activity and inadvertent deaths. Maybe they were being sued by the Sierra Club or Greenpeace to shut down and there was a temporary restraining order, but I'm almost positive they shut down because of raptor deaths, hawks in particular.

They shut down during the migratory season is my understanding. I think it is the Audubon Society who raised all the furor over bird deaths.
