There is always a higher risk of multiples when you have to resort to fertility treatments to have a child. Some treatments have a higher risk of multiples than others.

That said....OP congrats! I'm sure it's been a very rough road for you and your wife in regards to conceiving. Twins! What a blessing! I'm sure you are rightfully terrified but I'm sure you will make it all work out for your family

I guess that's technically true, especially if it works quickly and you only have to pay for one cycle with your RE.

You're going to do just fine. The fact that you already have a nanny to help and time to decide on the future is a huge plus. You have family not too far away to help when they can. If you think the nanny may need to move on, soon, then start looking for another one. A reasonably priced nanny may be the best answer for you, but you have to crunch the numbers to figure that out. Your wife not working may also be temporary until your kids go to school and you only need some after school care, so don't feel all alone in supporting the children.

Yes, it's daunting to have so many little ones at one time and you think you're relegated to your home forever, but you're not. You have to figure that out, too, and you can. Don't lock yourselves away from the world because it's too much trouble to pack them up and go somewhere for a bit. I have a friend who just had twin girls and had a barely 2 year old girl already. They don't stay locked up. Use family on weekends, too, when you can. Take the older child out to the park or wherever and let them help with the babies, sometimes. It's all workable if you put the pencil to the paper and you're willing to do what you need to do to remain a part of society!

Congrats. There will be many hard times, but the joys will far outweigh those.

So then why did you time it as you did? Why not wait till your first child was in grade school before going back for fertility treatments. Why not let the wife stay home to take care of the kids for a few years?

Got two under 3, 13 months a part. It isn't bad man, just gotta go with the flow. Don't be too serious and don't expect things to go smooth, but they usually do. The sleeping thing will hit you hard but push through it. If the wife staying home is an option, do it. We do it on a single income and I'm no baller. Just can't buy stuff or splurge on yourself but know it's for the best.

Maybe they didn't think they had the luxury of time for this? Sometimes people do fertility treatments for years before they actually conceive...and sometimes it happens with the first treatment. Maybe they currently had insurance coverage that covered most of the treatments and they wanted to take advantage of that now? There could be numerous reasons why they didn't wait.

thinking about day care costs for three kids

I had three in daycare at the same time. It was brutal.

Now I have three in college at the same time.

Kids are expensive. I wouldn't change a thing, though.

I have twins, boy and girl. They are about to be 14 years old. As babies they kept each other entertained and still pretty much do,just as babies it was twice the load on everything obviously. With only one child you have to be in babies face constantly to give him/her the security they need, with twins it seemed they did this for each other.....p.s. it was a lot of fun and still is,congratulations.

One of you might want to stop working and just stay home to care for the children. I couldn't even guess the cost for daycare, but sure it will be through the roof!!!

If you're making $120K per year you shouldn't be worrying.

Why no vasectomy?
