The most memorable political moment in my life. It's something we thought we would never see

The have a big section of the wall in the Newseum in Washington DC. West side is nothing but graffiti. East side is clean as a whistle!

My old man had this ancient shortwave radio (vacuum tube ancient) that I would mess around with. I happened to tune into the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation you losers) when the news was breaking that people were hammering on the wall, trying to take it down.

It was also interesting listening to Voice of America and Radio Moscow in those last years of the Cold War.

Who back then would’ve believed that a significant part of the US is practically communist now.

Fake news. The destruction of the wall didn’t officially begin until June 1990.

Nov 9th is when those in east berlin were allowed to cross over.

Amazing how recent that was. Isn't there still lots of hatred between the people in those previously separated geographical areas after all these years the barrier has been removed?

I get what you are saying. But going from a black US president to Donald Trump as president one day is still surreal when you think about it.

I would have put money on the wall coming down as more likely than that. Ha

It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. I remember people were all over that wall with anything they could find to chip away. I remember they sold those boxes with a piece of the wall inside a velvet bag. I went through about 50 of them when they first came out in order to find one with paint on it. I’ve still got 2 of them in a storage shed.

I don’t think there was much resentment but I’d hate to have been one of those who turned in people to the state. Yes there’s Atomic Blonde out there to give a fictionalized account but if you want a legit account take a look at Katarina Witt when she first saw her state file. It’s scary to think that we are damn close to that here in the present. The other interesting ones are the Stasny brothers who gave the Red Army hockey team the and were smuggled out of Central Europe so they could make millions in the NHL.

Can America get its own Berlin Wall? We have some communists of our own that we need to separate from the general population.

I'm 50 and it was inconceivable until Obama took office. He kicked it into gear. It was obvious who he was long before he was elected if you were paying attention.

They’ve invaded academia, education and media for a while. McCarthy might have had some good points
