If you find out that it's not cirrhosis, are you going to stop drinking? If not then you need to get some help.

That’s not too bad.

Usually you don’t get symptoms from cirrhosis. It sounds like gastritis. The alcohol wears away the lining of your stomach which causes irritation which could be the burning sensation.

52 x 8 = 416 weeks

45 x 416 = 18,720 beers

18,720 x .90* = $16,848.00 spent on beer over the last 8 years
* average cost of a can of beer in Louisiana

I had a liver transplant 12 years ago quitting drinking is easier than you think. If you want to live

I think your youth is going to be your saving grace bud. But, definitely you need to consider a lifestyle change.

As a late 20 something who is working on drinking, meditation and gym help. Learning about your triggers (boredom, bad emotions you're numbing) is helpful too.

Your math is wrong. That would be if he was drinking 45 beers a day....

Two cases of beer a day would be a whole different issue.

I think his math is just about dead on. However, his premise is flawed.

It's the drinking that will require you to get a liver transplant and it will be the drinking that disqualifies you from getting one.

Unless you're Larry Hagman or Mickey Mantle.

Regular Joe's who are heavy drinkers will be disqualified. Stands to reason too, if you're choosing between a heavy drinker who brought liver disease on themselves of some poor schlep or some young kid who didn't touch the stuff, the drinker is fooked.

You should have your blood work back. How are the liver enzymes?

The difference in calories between a "normal" 12oz beer and a 12oz Coke is negligible.

He said he was drinking light beers (and I would assume this is the same most the vast majority of people who are drinking that many beers in a single week). So yeah, you're right it's only about 30%-40% more calories per beer. Or, are you changing the argument to something other than the OPs, and making an irrelevant point?

No, my math was indeed wrong. I had a brain fart and calculated 45 beers a day instead of 45 beers per week.

I have never heard of someone dying from liver failure who just drank light beer. They were all binge drinking likker, every single day.

I legitimately don't know if it's possible to develop cirrhosis from light beer... like from a gastric logistics standpoint, is it possible for an average male with no aggravating factors to physically drink enough light beer to cause cirrhosis?

You could cut back but would be surprised if you have cirrhosis. To have cirrhosis by this point, you’d have to be drinking way more unless there is some other issue exacerbating the strain on your liver.

This is light/moderate drinking for South Louisiana standards.

It's heartburn from the drinking... you'll be fine, but stop drinking.

You will be fine. Just quit the drinking now. It's a wakeup call. Take advantage of it and stay on top of it.

This is not true at all. Most liver transplants are actually given to alcoholics, although fatty liver disease is catching up. There are some requirements they make you follow when you're on the list, but alcoholics definitely receive transplants.

Also, livers are allocated based on what's called a MELD score, not what caused your liver failure. It's a measurement of how sick a person is based on their lab work.
