Should’ve been 4 with Hamilton. Departed too early from this world.

There is a muster roll from Dobbs County, NC that has 3 of the grandfathers on it. What is amazing is that 1 is on my maternal side and the the other 2 are on my paternal side. The maternal side left NC and deeded land in TN. The paternal left NC and was deeded land in GA for service in the Revolution. Then eventually settled in south AL.

Directly line through Robert E Lee to my grandmother. I really was never told about this lineage until recently which I’m a little frustrated about because I think it would have been meaningful to know.
So very cool that you have that connection!! Why this wasnt made a bigger deal insofar as your story goes Ill never understand.
I got as far back as the Civil War (direct father-son though I think 5x grandpa was a deserter
Wish you luck in your pursuit of that membership. If you pull it off please let us know!

We nearly lost the Monroe Doctrine that day.
Well, since John Quincy Adams actually wrote the Monroe Doctrine and he was a nine year old boy home with his family that night, probably not.

That is what I thought also. He was involved in Virginia politics at this time, not serving in the military.

Hamilton could have never been President. He was born in Great Britain.

I have one grandfather who was an officer and was killed in 1779. I can't get him approved for the SAR so I doubt if I could do it here. My wife had a grandfather who was Valley Forge and another was present for the British surrender at Yorktown. Digging up history is very enjoyable for my wife and I!

Hamilton was born in Nevis in the Caribbean.
He was eligible to be President because he was a citizen at the time the Constitution was ratified. None of the founders were technically born in the United States.
“ No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

Fun digging up history!
yes it is.
was really hoping to find something cool like that when i found my family tree.
but due to timing i don’t have any (known) connection to either the revolutionary or civil wars.
my dad’s side came over from France in 1794. by sheer chance, the men were either too old or too young to fight when the Civil War broke out.
my mom’s side we can’t find any written records going back that far. But from stories passed down i don’t think they came here until probably right around the Civil War and likely didn’t participate.

They only killed about 25 Hessians, but captured almost 1000.

You might be surprised! With my father’s people being from South Alabama and my mother’s people from East Tennessee. I figured most of my grandfathers fought for the South. Seven of eight of that generation plus one pair of father son participated. However one from TN was a regiment that fought for the Union. Another grandfather was captured and spent the 1863-1864 winter in a POW camp at Rock Island, IL. When the 1864-1865?winter was looming he volunteered for frontier service and fight Indians. He did not feel he would survive another winter. He is what is called a Galvanized Yankee.

Man I can’t wait for our banger of a 250th birthday party while we host dozens and dozens of other countries in the World Cup in a couple summers
