Washington could never get insurance because they knew he stood up in the boat

Hamilton played a key role commanding the artillery, which won his position as aide-de-camp to Washington.

Saratoga is generally pointed to as the turning point of the war. However, without Trenton there would have been no Saratoga, and the Continental Army would have likely dissolved.

Interesting note, the tea tax was a 3 pence per pound not 3%. that was significantly more than 3% considering price of pound of tea was 2-3 Schilling (schilling = 12p). The tax was imposed in 1767 Townshend Act and the Tea Act of 1773 kept it in place the 3p tax on colonists but allowed duty free export from Britain which actually lowered cost of imported British tea thus giving East India Company an unfair trade advantage (undercutting black market Dutch tea smugglers.) Perhaps surprisingly, the consumer price may have been cut 33% from 3 schilling for smuggled tea to 2 for british import after tea act. wikipedia Boston Tea Party

I’m a member of the SAR and have proven lineage for 5 patriots. Wife is a DAR member with 3 patriots. I have about 20 more but can’t get the proper paperwork. I have 3 all I need is a will, proof marriage or family bible records.
Fun digging up history!

My FiL's people were Hessians, captured there and imprisoned in Frederick, Maryland in what's now called the Hessian Barracks. After the war, they were released and many chose to stay and be part of this new country, including my FiL's people.

Monroe was shot and nearly died. A musket ball severed his artery and a field surgeon opened him up and clamped the artery, which was a pretty radical procedure at the time. We nearly lost the Monroe Doctrine that day.

I’m eligible for SAR, but have not pursued it.
My great x grandfather was a member of the Acadian Coast Militia and was in the Galvez Expedition that captured Baton Rouge, Natchez, and Pensacola from the British.

I’m in the process of applying for membership in the Society of the Cincinnati.
Is anyone here a member?
Could have sworn we had one....Is it still just descendants of officers in the continental army or have they opened it up beyond that?

I didn’t realize the other two were in the military as well

Yes. It’s just male descendants of officers although if no male heir then I can go through a female (which is what happened in my case). Only one member per officer at any time. My uncle was the member in our family but he passed a year ago. We are out of Virginia. Directly line through Robert E Lee to my grandmother. I really was never told about this lineage until recently which I’m a little frustrated about because I think it would have been meaningful to know.

I find it fascinating as well. As a kid those people seemed so old and so far removed but when you actually look at the tree it’s not that many people.
My son will inherent the Society of Cincinnati membership at some point and I definitely want my daughter to join the DAR when eligible although at 13 she’s not that interested yet.

I don't know who GW's DEI director was, but there's no trans black women or no 400 lb wheelchair bound women in his boat.
