We begin with breaking news out of Lafayette, where one person was injured and others ran for cover as shots rang out in Brown Park off East Pont de Mouton Road.

Police units rushed to the scene after the shots were fired and found one person, a 22-year-old, injured who was taken away by ambulance.

quote:

Officers interviewed witnesses to try and determine what happened at this event to promote non-violence and community unity.

Eyewitnesses tell KLFY that they heard multiple gunshots in the area of the 1000 block of E. Pont de Mouton Road in the past 10 minutes, and that people can be seen running in different directions.

We contacted Lafayette Police who confirmed that there is currently a heavy police presence in the area and that more officers were enroute. They would not confirm our reports of shots fired.

This is a developing story. Please check back later for updates.

This happened recently here in Jacksonville. A big rally to "promote peace" ended with 2 people shot dead and 200+ witnesses refusing to cooperate with the police.

Middle of the day on Thursday? At least it wasn't a workplace shooting.

KATC reported last night that a boxing match broke out on the tennis court, and the gun shots stemmed from that match.
