A man who does this should be put on the fast track to death. All those who aid him should receive life in prison.

I tend to agree that a prompt and publicized execution is in order for this one...

Why cant we get HD cameras in the quarter, and shouldn't there be at least two on every block on bourbon? Its the most crowded/busiest place in nola and yet we have the shitiest cameras known to man
I would hope now there will be a push to get them.
I can get 5 HD Lorex brand cameras for $200.
A hundred of them on a 100 channel IP DVR network would be $15,086 at cost.
So really it isn't that much.
The problem is you have to be an "approved contractor" to do business with the city.
So an approved contractor will then mark the system up 300% so then it's $45,258 for the system.
Interconnecting the HDDs and IP network, bill at four people, 40 hours each. Pay averages about $25 an hour for camera install work. So $4 grand to set up the DVR.
Labor on installing the cameras. Takes a tech about a half hour if things go well to do one wireless camera. BUT this system will need a dedicated power source, so the city is going to need 24v wire ran and a dedicated power supply on each building as batteries would cost more in the long run.
(but could be used)
Good thing is a Class L is all that is needed for that, no need for expensive electricians.
So you have a hundred cameras, covering 10 blocks of Bourbon, ten buildings per block. Roughly.
Since the buildings do all share party walls you could easily draw the power from one source per side per block. So you need 20 24v transformers. Cost is about $75 for a commercial one so $1500 costs, figure $4500 billed.
So now per camera we will have 1.5 hours with all testing and install and all.
A installer on the outside would average $18, so $2700 to install the cameras.
Employer marks up labor by 1.5 to cover insurance, expenses.
So $4500 becomes $6750
and
$2700 becomes $4050.
So realistically, Bourbon street could have an impressive network of IP connected cameras backed up by a 100 TB server for $60-65,000
That is chicken feed to a city like this.
$20,000 if the city bought the stuff themselves and then hired workers to install.
100 cameras HD with IR will see everything in those ten blocks.

I am kind of disgusted that the police officer didn't perform CPR. I would assume they are all trained in it. Hell teenage lifeguards had to learn it.
Yep. Didn't appear that the cop did absolutely anything except talk on a walkie. No first aid, CPR, no crowd control, no preserving the crime scene, no talking to witnesses. Nothing.

Doesn't say he's been charged with anything. Just that he's turned himself in.

Interesting. As of now he's just a suspect. Will be interesting to hear his story. Will he confess or make something up?

He's gonna roll on the shooter.
Trade info and testimony for soft time.
First guy in gets the deal.
